Marvel’s Avengers: 15 unreported characters reported in Datamine

15 unannounced characters are thought to have been dated from the beta of Marvel’s Avengers, including the likes of Captain Marvel, Dr. Strange, War Machine, and Mar-Vell. With the game’s beta now in the wild, it did not take long for dataminers to start pulling it apart and looking for hints about the future of the game, and two separate digs into the code public lists for multiple unannounced playable characters:

  • Ant Man
  • The Wasp
  • Fisy
  • Black panther
  • Dr. Strange
  • Falcon
  • Mar-Vell
  • Mockingbird
  • Quake
  • Winter soldier
  • Scarlet Witch
  • Captain Marvel
  • Kate Bishop
  • She-Hulk
  • War machine

Initially, a datamined series of strings was hosted on Pastebin and posted to the Marvel’s Avengers subreddit by user 6plus4equals52, revealing that Captain Marvel, She-Hulk, Kate Bishop, War Machine and Peter Parker (the latest entry was the PlayStation exclusive Spider -Man Collaboration) were all named as Challenge Cards in the game.

Challenge Cards are essentially battle-packed in-game for every hero in Marvel’s Avengers that scales when you rank. If a hero has a Challenge card in the code, it is assumed that they can appear on the line later in the game. Kate Bishop has previously been tipped as a potential future addition to the game.

A second datamine appeared later, including all the previously mentioned characters, and added more to the potential roster, including Ant Man (who is referred to as “AntMan2”, often referring to the fact that this would be the Scott Lang Ant-Man, instead of Hank Pym, who is a missionary in the game), The Wasp, Vision, Black Panther, Dr. Strange, Falcon, Mar-Vell, Mockingbird, Quake, Winter Soldier and Scarlet Witch.

Frenzy, Ultron, Red Hulk, Deathlok, Vindicator and Monica (probably Monica Rappaccini from AIM) are also mentioned in the second datamine, but their playability is in question as they are mentioned in sections outside the core list with unlocked characters. If legitimate, the leaks raise an interesting talking point – many of these heroes have very similar powers to existing heroes (She-Hulk, War Machine, Kat Bishop, etc.), which may mean that they will act as skins as “echoes” characters – potentially the fact that Marvel’s Avengers do not allow two of the same character in a team.

If all this is true, then we’m sure we’ll know that all the featured characters are included in all versions of the game, given that Spider-Man is the only console-exclusive hero.
