MarShawn Lloyd will miss the 2020 season


South Carolina is running back MarShawn Lloyd will miss the 2020 season due to a knee injury suffered on Wednesday in the team’s second practice of the press season, according to a school press release. He will have surgery to repair a torn ACL, but that date has not yet been set.

Lloyd, a four-star record-breaking record in January of this year and the 11th-best signing in program history as ranked by the 247Sports Composite, suffered the injury Wednesday during the team’s second fall practice. Thursday was a walking day for the Gamecocks.

“I’m extremely disappointed with MarShawn,” said head coach Will Muschamp. “It was a non-contact situation where he just planted his foot and tore his ACL. MarShawn will attack his rehabilitation like he does everything in life. The best is yet to come for MarShawn Lloyd.”

The Gamecocks have four supporting running backs – returning Deshaun Fenwick and Kevin Harris along with incoming players Rashad Amos and Zaquandre White – who are healthy on the roster. Fenwick has a couple of 100-yard games to his credit in his young career with the Gamecocks, topping the mark in games against Chattanooga and Vanderbilt, while Harris scored four touchdowns as a true freshman.

Amos, a three-star prospect of Sandy Creek High School in Georgia, chose South Carolina for more than a dozen offers. White is a transfer that runs back from Iowa Western who began his career at Florida State. White rushed 137 times for 876 yards in eight games, averaging 109.5 yards per game and 6.4 yards per carry, with 10 TDs last season for Iowa Western.
