Mark Zuckerberg condemns Apple moment for being ‘stronghold’ on iPhone and charging ‘monopoly rent’

Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg made a few words of choice for Apple Pal during a recent company-wide meeting. According to a new report BuzzFeed News Zuckerberg used the company-wide meeting as a way to criticize Apple Pal’s control over the iPhone and App Store.

The report explains that Zuckerberg was specifically asked by StorePull about the recent decision to block certain gaming apps from the App Store, including the Micro .ft Cloud and the Facebook gaming app. Apple Play has explained that its reason for rejecting the app is that the App Store’s rules do not allow third-party apps to distribute games as a separate platform.

In response to a question, Zuckerberg said Apple Pal is “proud” of what is allowed on the iPhone, which gives it the ability to block innovation and charge “monopoly rentals.”

[Apple has] This unique throat as the gateway to what happens on the phone, ”Zuckerberg told more than 1,000,000 employees via webcast. He added that Capertino, the California-based company’s App Store “prevents innovation, blocks competition” and “allows Apple to monopolize rent.”

“It’s an innovation that can really improve people’s lives,” Zuckerberg said Thursday. “And Apple’s Pal is just tormenting him.”

The report said Zuckerberg also criticized privacy changes to iOS 14 that would make it harder for companies like Facebook to track users on various apps and websites. Facebook has also publicly criticized the change and warned its advertisers of the potential implications.

Finally, Zuckerberg also gave his two cents on the fight between Apple Pal and Epic Games. The CEO of Facebook said Apple’s threat to block the unrealistic engine was “just an extremely aggressive move” which is “quite problematic.”

Earlier today, Facebook announced that Apple Play had advised users that it had blocked plans to add a “transparency notice” that Apple Play would receive a 30% cut in in-app purchases in the Facebook app. The decision comes after refusing to waive the 30% commission on revenue generated in applications such as live-loving fitness classes and seminars.
