Mark David Chapman, the killer of John Lennon, refused release for an 11th time

ALBANY, New York – The man who shot John Lennon outside his Manhattan apartment in 1980 has been denied release for the 11th time, state correction officials said Wednesday.

Mark David Chapman was denied after interviews by a parole board Aug. 19, according to correctional officials. Chapman, 65, is serving a 20-year life sentence at Wende Correctional Facility, east of Buffalo.

Chapman shot and killed the former Beatle on the night of December 8, 1980, hours after Lennon autographed an album for him. He has previously said he feels “more and more ashamed” of the crime every year.

“I was too far in,” Chapman told a 2018 parole board. “I still remember I had the thought of ‘Hey, you got the album now. Look at this, he drew it, just go home.’ But there was no way I was going to go home. “

Chapman’s next parole hearing is scheduled for August 2022.
