Mariners Moose Tracks, 07/26/20: Evan White, lots of news from the Washington Nationals ?, stormy rain at the Ionescu parade

Opening Weekend 2020 is coming to an end, and while it’s not an experience I want to repeat ever again, it’s nice to go back to baseball mode. A summer Sunday without baseball is sacrilege. As it is a summer Sunday without links!

In Sailors News:

AT SEAHAWKS NEWS HI HELLO REMEMBER US THE MOST PROMINENT SEATTLE SPORTS TEAM FRIENDS CHILDREN DON’T FORGET US, SEATTLE SEAHAWKS,

I’m kidding but! The Seahawks watched the opening of the NHL Seattle on baseball’s Opening Day, the Seattle Storm returned to play, and became so jealous of all the attention being paid to other sports that they simply had to make a big trade. Our friends at Field Gulls have all the details of what seems like a big deal! YOUR MOVEMENT, JERRY.

Speaking of the storm, they kicked off their season with a powerful ceremony yesterday honoring Breonna Taylor, who was killed while sleeping in her bed more than 130 days ago by Louisville police. Look it here. The Storm game also featured the return of MVP Breanna Stewart, legendary Sue Bird and Oregon basketball legend Sabrina Ionescu playing in her first professional game (she scored 12 points despite being so furiously contained by the storm that she generated multiple memes on Twitter). Read the game summary, which won the storm, here. (I’d link an SBN blog for recap, except … there is none. Which seems kind of ridiculous considering Storm has three championships, one more than the Sounders, two more than the Seahawks, and three more than the sailors. )

In the actual Mariners news, there was a game yesterday. They lost. Read Zach’s summary here.

  • If you like Nola’s fun facts, well, here is a Nola fun fact:

Around the league:

Speaking of Yo Gamma Gams, he had a triple RBI in that game, which the Brewers won, 8-3.

And the headshot!

Will Smith kindly responded to this tweet and said he would plug in the decapitated fan.

  • I have no context for this, I just want you to see it:

Kate’s choice:

I’ve never endorsed a Kickstarter project before, but I couldn’t resist this Sherlock Holmes board game. But then I was talking to a friend who supports many projects who said not to get too attached to the idea that the thing is actually being built, as many projects fail or are even funded, but never delivered. Look at it as a stock investment. Some will be good investments and some will not be good investments. “But folks, I don’t even have enough money for real stonks, let alone fake board games. Has anyone had experiences with this one way or the other? Should I cancel the I asked on Etsy for a custom deer hunter? And if I can’t get a super special Kickstarter board game, what other game should I get to get through the last days of the summer pandemic before moving on to the fall pandemic?
