Marin County to Issue Fines for Violators of Health Orders COVID-19

The Marin County Board of Supervisors unanimously approved a new ordinance Tuesday to step up enforcement of the shelter orders at the county site.

Effective immediately, the county will issue fines to individuals and businesses that do not comply with the rules. Possible violations include businesses that operate when they’re not supposed to, and people who don’t wear face covers.

The county is on the state health department’s watch list due to an increasing number of COVID-19 cases and where more than 2,200 people have the virus. 200 cases have been reported since last week.

Earlier this month, the county withdrew some of its reopens, such as dinner indoors. Most indoor activities are no longer allowed.

For people who violate the shelter in order, they could face civil penalties ranging from $ 25 to $ 500.

Companies operating in violation of health orders could face penalties ranging from $ 250 to $ 10,000.

The size of the violation will depend on the overall risk of the activity to public health.
