On Thursday afternoon The Simpsons producer James L. Brooks tweeted, “I would not be surprised if Marge Simpson shared her reaction to Jenna’s shot.”
He referred to a tweet from Trump campaign senior legal adviser Jenna Ellis who blew up the day before during Joe Biden’s first official campaign event with running mate Kamala Harris.
Ellis, who also ran the latest birther conspiracy theory about the vice presidential candidate, tweeted during Harris’ speech, “Kamala sounds like Marge Simpson. Twitter stepped up, but the iconic mother of the cartoon will probably get the last word.
“I do not normally get into politics,” Marge begins in a new video released Friday morning. “But the former adviser to President Jenna Ellis just said that Kamala Harris sounds to me! Lisa says she does not mean it as a compliment. ”
‘If so, like an ordinary suburban housewife,’ she continues, getting a subtle count on President Trump’s recent tweets, ‘I started to feel a little disrespectful. I teach my children not to name names, Jenna … ”
Then, as the clip to the outside of cut The Simpsons family home at night, Marge adds under her breath, “I would say I’m pissing, but I’m afraid they’ll blow it up.”
While Marge rarely “can in politics” maybe this is not the first time The Simpsons has decided that it is necessary to react after someone on the right shared their intentionally unknowingly misread of the show.
Two years ago, Senator Ted Cruz declared with confidence that “Democrats are the party of Lisa Simpson and Republicans are happily the party of Homer and Bart and Maggie and Marge.”
‘I like that Mr. Cruz enjoys The Simpsons, but I think his understanding of the characters is weak, ‘showrunner Al Jean told The Daily Beast at the time. “I think if he researched Lisa’s positions, he’s a smart man, he could change his mind.”
