Country star Maren Morris has deleted all photos of her son, Hayes, after an “embarrassed mom” controversy. Morris previously said that he would likely stop sharing photos of his three-month-old son Hayes, as his social media pages were bombarded with criticism when he shared a photo of her with Hayes on a float on a lake. Her husband Ryan Hurd also came to Morris’s defense, assuring everyone that they would never knowingly jeopardize their son.
The situation started earlier this week when Morris shared what she assumed was just an adorable photo capturing a mother and son moment. I was sitting in a golf cart floating on a lake with Hayes, and they were both wearing bathing suits and cactus-print sunglasses. Morris shared the photo on Instagram and Twitter, where a fan instantly asked where Hayes’ “life jacket” was. Morris has since removed the photo from her social media pages, as well as other photos of Hayes. She even deleted Hayes’s birth announcement, which included a photo of her cradling Hayes in the hospital.
After a fan defended Morris on Twitter, the “My Church” singer said she would probably stop posting new photos of Hayes. “Honestly, I get so much criticism about my motherhood from everything I post about Hayes, so I can stop posting photos of him. He sucks, but that’s where I am,” she wrote.
Singer Mickey Guyton told Morris that he shouldn’t give in to enemies, but Morris said that she and Hurd were already considering not sharing more photos to protect Hayes’ privacy. “Thank you, darling. I mean, we talked about slowing down photo posting anyway now that it’s a little older, but the added garbage from (mostly other moms) definitely forced our hand,” Morris wrote.
Meanwhile, Hurd still has photos of Hayes on his Instagram page, including a different one that shows Hayes in a float held by Hurd. On Thursday Hurd defended Morris, calling her a “great mother”. They made sure Hayes was safe and that the water was only a foot deep. There were also five people watching as Morris took the photo. “Hayes has 2 coast guard approved life jackets that he wears. Also, sometimes moms have a drink and the friend of the house earns it,” Hurd tweeted.
Morris and Hurd, who is also a country singer, were married in 2018. In a May interview with PERSONSHurd said it was difficult to welcome a baby during the coronavirus pandemic because they were unable to invite people to meet Hayes. “I feel that we are very blessed because we have avoided many difficulties that other artists have had to face, because we really have not had to cancel many shows,” he told the magazine. “We are really fortunate to be here learning to be a family of three and it has truly been an amazing time in our lives.”
