Many COVID-19 patients later develop mental illness, studies show

According to one study, twenty percent of coronavirus patients develop a new mental illness.

According to a study published in the Lancet Psychiatry Journal, the most common disorders experienced by Covid-19 survivors within 90 days of their diagnosis are anxiety, depression, and insomnia.

“People are worried that Covid-1 survivors will be at greater risk of mental health problems, and our findings show that this is likely to happen,” said Paul L. Harris, a professor of psychiatry at Oxford University in Britain.

In this study, U.S. Electronic health records of more than 7,000 coronavirus patients were looked at.

The study group suffers from a new mental illness compared to other groups of patients during this period, the researchers said.

Michael Bloomfield, a consultant psychiatrist at University College London, said the study was not directly involved, “This is likely due to a combination of mental stress associated with this particular epidemic and the physical effects of the disease.”
