Andreas Pereira jumped to the defense of teammate Victor Lindelof after the relegation of Manchester United from the Europa League.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side left Europe on Sunday night after slipping an early lead against Spanish side Sevilla.
Bruno Fernandes had given United the lead from the penalty spot early before former Liverpool winger Suso pulled his side level for half.
United dominated proceedings after the break, but were frustrated for the goal before Luuk de Jong capitalized on some poor defense to win the game late for Sevilla.
Fernandes was seen after a hot conversation with Lindelof after Sevilla netted their second goal of the game, with many fans blaming Sweden for his role in the defeat.
One ridiculous image appeared on social media that was edited to show Lindelof in an argument with himself along with the caption: “Lindelof has only one person to blame.”
However, midfielder Pereira was not happy with the jokes directed at the Sweden international and defended his teammate in the comments below.
“We win as a team, but we lose as a team as well,” Pereira wrote on Instagram. “He owes no one, he would never do that.”
Defeat for United saw them lose their third tie-semi-final of the season after losing in both the Carabao Cup and FA Cup as they ended the campaign for the third year in a row without a campaign.
