A Florida man desperate about his terminally ill daughter – who is facing the amputation of her leg due to cancer – shot the 11-year-old fatally before turning the gun on himself as her mother prepared breakfast, according to a report.
The girl, who had undergone chemotherapy, was at her home on Southwest 18th Court in Davie on Monday with her parents when her mother was startled by the sound of gunfire, the South Florida Sun-Sentinel reported.
“It was a devastating terminal illness,” police spokesman Lt. Mark Leone. ‘She would not get better. … It’s such a tragic situation, a terrible situation. ”
The embarrassed mother discovered the only child that the couple was dead and fatally injured her husband, according to the news release, which said he died in a hospital.
“It’s devastating,” Leone said of the apparent homicide-suicide. “It’s a lose-lose situation.”
The newspaper did not identify the girl and her parents because their relatives are not all aware of the tragedy.
The girl, who was born May 10, 2009, Mother’s Day, appeared healthy and happy in photos posted on social media from her young years, when she performed in dance recitals and practiced martial arts.
Relationships said she developed cancer in her femur and had plans to amputate her leg in Boston on August 28th. That would have been her parents’ 27th wedding anniversary, the Sun-Sentinel reported.
Miriam Casanova, whose husband, Jorge, is a cousin of the tragic girl’s mother, said the father had difficulty speaking amid all the tears during a recent phone call.
“He could not speak. He was just crying, ‘she told the paper.
