Man Crushed to Death in Subway During Harlem Platform Fight

A man was crushed by a subway train in Harlem on Friday after falling onto the tracks while trying to stop a fight between two women, New York police and police sources said.

The victim was attacked by an unidentified man around 3:30 p.m. when he intervened in a fight at the 2/3 subway stop at West 125th Street and Malcolm X Boulevard, sources said.

While being beaten, the victim fell between an incoming train and the platform to the south, according to sources.

His head, left leg and arm were wrapped between the train and the platform and he was pronounced dead at the scene, authorities said.

“When I got off the train, I saw a man with his head split in half and his torso caught between the walkway and the train,” said Edward Jones.

“People were horrified … there were children crying, I was horrified.”

Another subway rider, Nicole Ruiz, said that despite the horrible scene, she was “begging” for the man to stay alive.

She said the FDNY was trying to get the man out, but the cops showed up to tell the strangers to leave, and “I realized he was dead when they put the black plastic bag on him.”

“I started crying,” added Ruiz.

Authorities did not immediately reveal the victim’s name or age. Police are searching for the man suspected of his death.
