A man was arrested after refusing to wear a face mask on a Delta Air Lines flight from Salt Lake City to San Francisco, officials said.
Joshua Colby Council, 44, was on his way to his Delta fight at Salt Lake City International Airport at 10:40 a.m. Wednesday when a door agent stopped him and asked him to wear a face mask, according to a police report obtained by Salt Lake. Tribune.
The council refused and continued to board the plane, police said.
Once on board, the captain and flight crew told the council to wear a mask, but it turned out to be hostile and he continued to refuse, police said.
He also refused to leave his seat when airport security tried to get him off the plane.
It was only when all the other passengers got up and got out that he finally left the plane, police said.
The incident delayed the flight by 45 minutes.
The council was placed in the Salt Lake County Jail on charges of disorderly conduct. He was released on Thursday morning.
“We apologize to customers for the delay in Flight 1382 on Wednesday, as passengers were removed from the flight for non-compliance with the mask,” the airline said in a statement to KSL-TV.
“Nothing is more important than the safety of our people and our customers.”
