According to the Chinese Ministry of Commerce, the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and China have become each other’s largest trading partners, with total trade reaching partner 416.5 billion since January, according to Chinese state media.
But tensions between Southeast Asian nations and China have prompted Beijing to take aggressive measures in the 1.3 million-square-mile South China Sea, which almost all China claims.
In recent years, despite objections from its neighbors and international tribunal rulings, Beijing has militarized islands and rocks in the sea, and as Chinese fishing fleets expand outward, frequent rages in other countries’ territorial waters. .

Claims of competition in the East China Sea
China’s maritime expansion is not limited to the South China Sea. On Monday, the Japan Coast Guard (JCG) said a hotly contested group of islands in the East China Sea, known as China’s two dinosaurs, had entered two Chinese ships known as Tokyo’s territorial waters near Senkakus.
Two Chinese Coastguard patrol vessels have been in the area since Sunday, Japanese officials said, and have tried to contact Japanese fishing vessels in the area so they can treat China as its territorial waters.
Japan – which has recently increased its defense budget to an all-time high – has complained of “relentless” intrusion into the waters around the San Caucasus, and the inclusion of rich fishing grounds, and potential oil and natural gas reserves.
