UPDATE 4:51 AM: Today’s early morning earthquake that was felt strongly in Los Angeles has degraded to a magnitude 4.2 since its initial 4.3. It was centered less than a mile from Los Angeles, four miles from Santa Clarita and seven miles from Burbank, according to the US Geological Survey.
There have been five aftershocks ranging from a magnitude 3.1 less than 10 minutes after the initial shake to a 2.7 about three hours later. There have been no immediate injuries or significant damage reported at 5 am local time, the Los Angeles Fire Department said. LAX remains open.
In April, a 3.7 earthquake shook the city. About five earthquakes with magnitudes between 3 and 4 occur each year in the Los Angeles metropolitan area.

PREVIOUSLY, 4:45 AM: Los Angeles residents had a rude awakening around 4.30 a.m. today when a 4.3-magnitude earthquake struck the city. A smaller replica registered 3.3 shortly thereafter.
The epicenter of the earthquake was near the San Fernando Valley. Many notable residents were pulled out of bed and taken straight to Twitter, including Tyra Banks, Zach Braff, rapper Lil Nas, Queer Eye’s Karamo, NBC nightly host Lilly Singh and others. See some highlights below.
