On the first night of the 2020 Democratic National Convention, Maggie Rogers released a special acoustic release of her song “Back in My Body.”
Introduced by Maine’s Democratic nominee for Senate Sara Gideon, Rogers stood on the rocky shores of Maine, all dressed in white, armed only with her guitar and a microphone for her performance. The themes of the song of standing for yourself shone through, especially when Rogers sang in the choir, “This time, I know I’m fighting.”
As Rogers sang through her song, images and clips of essential workers and medical professionals in the age of coronavirus flew across the screen, highlighting one of the event’s central themes around the impact of COVID-19. pandemic, and President Donald Trump’s lack of leadership at all.
Earlier in the day on Monday, Rogers posted a thank you to former President Barack Obama for including his song “Love You For A Long Time” on his 2020 Summer Playlist. “What an incredible playlist to stamp on if you make sure you and all your friends, family and neighbors are registered to vote,” she said on Instagram. “LIGHT (and Michelle) FOR YOU VERY LONG!
