Macy’s will launch fireworks on barges near Long Island City tonight as it kicks off its July 4 fireworks show, according to sources.

The company offers short fireworks shows in all five boroughs each night this week that will be part of a July 4 television special on Saturday. The first night, tonight, will be at Hunters Point Park South.

Each show will light up the sky for about 5 minutes and will start around 9:30 p.m. Macy’s will give just a few hours notice each day of where they will be held.

“This year is going to be different,” de Blasio said earlier this month about how Macy’s organizes fireworks. “It will not be like the past where there is a great giant show. We don’t want many people to see outside. “

The shows are short and their locations are a surprise to avoid overcrowding of the spectators.

Last year, fireworks started in a great show from the Brooklyn Bridge and the surrounding barges. In previous years they were fired from barges at Hunters Point South Park.

“This year, we will be taking our fireworks show on a city tour,” said Susan Tercero, executive producer of fireworks for July 4 at Macy’s earlier this month.

Fireworks will be launched from various land and water locations throughout the city.

“These five-minute surprise displays will showcase Macy’s signature pyrotechnic design and scale, while encouraging viewers to continue to follow safety measures and social distancing,” said Tercero.
