Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade, Rockefeller tree ceremony to continue, but in scaled-down form, officials say

Mayor Bill de Blasio signaled Thursday that the Big Apple is likely to scale two stacks of the holiday season – the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade and the Rockefeller Center’s Christmas tree celebration – to prevent follow-ups that could burn another coronavirus outbreak.

“I think everything will be different is the simple answer,” Hizzoner told reporters during a news conference Thursday.

‘I think some will be virtual, it could be some small personal pieces, scattered pieces. It will obviously not look like what we are used to, “he added.” But the important thing is that the traditions are preserved in some way. “

The Blasio pointed to the rejection of East River’s traditional fireworks for the Fourth of July in a series of smaller holidays spread across the city over several days as a potential model.

Both the fireworks and the Thanksgiving Day Parade are sponsored by retail mainstay Macy’s, who said on their website that it is working on plans for the fall classic.

“Following our successful, safe, and innovative production of Macy’s 4th of July Fireworks, it is our intention to commemorate Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade on this same day this November,” said the company, which maintains an iconic store in Herald Square. “Stay tuned for more details later this fall.”
