George C. Wolfe’s August Gust Wilson admiration for the adaptation is stupid, Bossman and Davis are now old for acting honors next year.
The wait is over, and here are the first reactions to Netflix’s upcoming awards season gambling “Ma Reini’s Black Bottom”. And that’s key, with Oscar shoe-ins praising Viola Davis and Chadwick Boseman. George C. Directed by Wolfe and adapted from a favorite play by August Wilson, the play debuted on Saturday, November 14, as part of the Sneak-Peak virtual premiere in partnership with the American Film Institute. “Maa Reini’s Black Bottom” is set to launch on Netflix on December 18 everywhere.
In “Maa Reini’s Black Bottom”, tension and temperature rise during an afternoon recording session in Chicago, 1920. A band of musicians will await the arrival of a trailblazing performer, Mother of the Blues, Maa Raini. She is played by Oscar-winning Viola Davis for Best Supporting Actress for another August Wilson adaptation, director Denzel Washington’s “Fence”. (Washington Washington is also a producer on “Maa Raines.”) At the end of the session, Maa Rainey shared an ad with her white manager and producer on the control of her music. Meanwhile, the band claps as they wait in the strophobic rehearsal room, where Trumpter Levy (Boseman), with his own ambitions, encourages his fellow musicians to reveal the truth that will change all of their lives.
The movie is buzzing with Boseman’s posthumous (and final) performance. Spike is planning to campaign for Boseman in the lead actor category at Netflix ose Scar while trying Lee’s “The 5 Bloods” (also for Netflix) supporting actor.
The cast of “Maa Reini Black Bottom” also includes Glenn Turman, Coleman Domingo and Michael Potts.
Check out the roundup of first reactions on Twitter below.
August Wilson recruit George C. Wolfe’s mother Raini will clear the black bottom sc. It shows in a timely manner how anger can simmer and explode. Actors will like Viola Davis and Chadwick Bozman as her trumpeters as blues singers: she could win a posthumous Oscar.

MA Renee’s Black Bottom is a dynamic adaptation of August Wilson’s play with vibrant cinematography, music and costumes. Chadwick Bozman’s Swan-song is at its best with two stunning monologues that rank among some of the best. Viola Davis dominates everyone on screen and in her path. pic.twitter.com/P1iexrxQtT

Ma Renee’s Black Bottom is a Scorcher. Chadwick Boseman is a class act and the delivery of August Wilson’s monologue is flawless. I miss him. Viola Davis is gorgeous, commanding the screen with every word. I’m scared of Tobias Schiller’s cinematography. pic.twitter.com/XaR4mUWeyR

‘Maa Raines Black Bottom’ gives us a great turn from Viola Davis but it’s Chadwick Boseman who has left her on the floor in a stellar, Sydney Poitier-level, sc-worthy performance. Coleman Domingo provides excellent support and is the score aces of Banford Marcellus. pic.twitter.com/deH4QpQS1 h

Maa Rainy’s Black Bottom is the best work of Chadwick Boseman’s very short career film. It’s also the best part of the text I had to work with. The film does not escape the purpose of its theatrical organization, but may be the most fully realized film in Netflix’s award arsenal.

In MA Rainey’s Black Bottom, Chadwick Boseman unloads himself every ounce on the screen. Everything that cinema can offer is in its levy. Viola Davis is gorgeous (smaller role than expected). Pick and want Glon Turman # Oscar Know that too. #FilmTwitter pic.twitter.com/Sibay5Ru46

Welcome to the awards race, Viola Davis and Chadwick Bozman, Netflix’s Denzel and Washington Shington-maker M.A. Rain’s Black Butt Tom Stars! https://t.co/NLpp9d6tKG pic.twitter.com/hQpWjG4PDQ

Thought Viola Davis was the best in MA Rain’s Black Bottom. A commanding performance with plenty of subtext that serves as the truthful origin of the coherent story. It has always been excellent, and this movie adds to the rest of its filmography. pic.twitter.com/aI9mUWFQmL

Viola Davis gives a performance in “Maa Reini’s Black Bottom” in which Tony, an Emmy and a scout should win Hell, I’ll throw Grammy too. A gigantic Wilson performance – as good as her Tony winning work “Fence.” The incarnation of the blues in acting. 1/3
