Luis Suarez and other cast-offs could provide an alternative route for transfers for Liverpool this summer

Liverpool’s approach to transfers in recent seasons has played a large part in their success, and this applies to their youth recruitment as well as the seniors they have added to their squad.

The Reds have drawn players from relegated clubs by completing excellent deals, and spent big time like Alisson and Virgil van Dijk, with the end result being a team with the quality to take home the Champions League title in 2019 and win the Premier League at a gallop the last time.

Just because Jurgen Klopp’s team did not always choose very talented players, does not mean that such players could not improve their selection.

We have identified three men who, although out of favor at the European superclubs where they currently trade, may have something to offer at Anfield – if the price is right.

Luis Suarez

Suarez is expected to leave Barcelona following the arrival of Ronald Koeman as manager, with the Dutchman ready to oversee some of a reset at the Camp Nou.

The Uruguayan would have tackled the twilight of his career at the age of 33, but he found himself more than 20 times in all competitions last season in what was widely regarded as an underrated campaign on a personal and team level.

Liverpool fans seem torn on a return for a player who scored 31 goals in 33 games in his last Reds season, with some perhaps worried about his lack of mobility, given the way Klopp’s team set up.

However, if he is available for free, and if he would not expect to play every minute of every game, Suarez could still have something to offer his former employers.

Luka Jovic

Liverpool were among the clubs linked with Jovic while still at Eintracht Frankfurt, only for the Serbian frontman to decide on a move to Real Madrid.

Things are not planned for the 22-year-old in his first season in Spain, with only two goals in the league and none in Europe, with the advancement of youngsters Rodrygo and Vinicius Junior limiting his options.

Still, this is a player whose last season in the Bundesliga saw him finish the campaign with 27 goals in all leagues, and that’s not the kind of return that disappears overnight.

While Liverpool’s top three have a few similarities, could Klopp have had the inclination to look at Jovic again, especially considering the age difference between him and Roberto Firmino, Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah?

Julian Draxler

He is a player who was provisionally linked with a move to Liverpool when Klopp arrived at Anfield in 2015.

Julian Draxler seems to have been in and out of the Paris Saint-Germain team since he signed from Wolfsburg three years ago.

The 2019/20 campaign saw the 26-year-old feature only 22 times for the Ligue 1 champions in all leagues, without scoring a single goal.

Must-read news from Liverpool FC

While these stats do not make the best read, we all know that Klopp has the ability to get the absolute best out of just about every player he takes under his wing.

There have been calls for the Reds to strengthen this summer, especially in the attacking midfield / pre-division.

Should Draxler need a change of scenery, could he then influence Anfield?
