LuciferThe sixth and final season will explore a very important topic: the Black Lives Matter movement.
Seeing how Tom Ellis ‘titular character works with the police, the drama’s writing team “began to look at the fact that we are a cop-show and in what ways we have contributed or not addressed the systemic problems of’ the police department, “executive producer Ildy Modrovich told ET Online. ‘And we decided we wanted to talk about it. So we’re actually doing a story that speaks directly to that, and we’m super excited about it. ”
Modrovich, who writes the installation, also admitted that he is ‘nervous’ about the episode ‘because I want it right’, she explained.
The storyline will be told “through the eyes of our characters from an emotional place and not from a sermon place,” Modrovich shared. “To look at the situation really socially, emotionally and resonate on a deeper level than just words like rhetoric.”
Modrovich added that the ‘nice variety’ room of writers shed “many tears” at the breaking of the episode. EP Joe Henderson also notes that the creative team proposed to the cast to involve them in the discussion.
“It’s also very important for everyone,” Henderson said. “DB [Woodside] was one of the people we really cared about, [as well as with] Lesley-Ann [Brandt], with Tom [Ellis]. Normally we tell her stories and a bit of mythology, but this is something that almost everyone asks about her, so we listen to her, and we have tried to make it as much of a conversation as possible and a listening exercise. ”
LuciferThe farewell route, with the BLM hour, has no premiere date yet. The first half of Season 5, meanwhile, debuts this Friday, August 21st on Netflix.
