This season episode 2 of Lucifer this contains a great revelation about the heavenly family tree and the power to manipulate earthly matters.
While the procedural part of the police force of this episode is par for the course, the drama between Lucifer and Chloe is the real undercurrent in the Netflix show. Things were set at the end of episode 1 with a possible importer, but how will that play out going forward? Here is a review.
[Spoiler alert: This article contains spoilers from Lucifer Season 5, Episode 2: Lucifer! Lucifer! Lucifer!]
It’s Lucifer 2.0
The episode opens with an astronaut sticking in the neck by another perfectly fit astronaut. They lie at an upturned compound in the middle of the desert.
In the penthouse, fake Lucifer practices his British accent in a full-length mirror while naked. This scene is filmed before he cuts to Chloe and Ella on the astronaut’s crime scene.
The victim is Judy, a biochemist working on a Mars project to transport citizens to the red planet. Of course, a billionaire finances the operation. His name is Brody.
Faux Lucifer shows up and greets Chloe, but he is accused by Ella who pummels him with a shoe. She is angry that he ran to Florida without saying goodbye. He gets the signal from Chloe to stream in with those lies, adding that he needed to help his mom with the family business. They make up.
Chloe takes him aside and exclaims the fact that he is lying, something he never does. Imposter Luci excuses his behavior by revealing how long he has been away (during the time of hell) and proving it, Dan compliments. That makes Chloe more suspicious, but he announces that it’s Lucifer 2.0.

Chloe is suspected of Lucifer and she is not the only one
The scene is set after Chloe talks on Linda’s therapy session. Linda advises Chloe that Luci is probably acting weird because he’s been in hell for thousands of years, even if it’s only a few months for humans.
Chloe thinks he might be suffering, but Linda says, “We at least know he never does anything, do we?” Chloe tells Linda that he changed that policy as well, but she advises that he needs time to get back to earth life.
Back at the area, Chloe and fake Lucifer ask the space campers questions. She hints that he should use his “wish” tactics to interrogate them, but it obviously does not happen. He becomes too respectful and professional while Chloe plays bad cop.
It’s funny when Sharon Osborne (yes, that one) is in the heat and makes a comment about bat heads. She tells false Luci that she never got the chance to thank him for her help from her husband – from one prince of darkness to another.
This Lucifer is not kidding, doing obscene things, threatening people or following Chloe. She’s super suspicious. Even Dan thinks something is fishy when faux Lucifer hands him his pudding. We know that the real Lucifer is notorious for stealing Dan’s pudding.
The couple visit the lab that oversees the Mars project and talk to the program’s leaders, Sam and Andie. They learn that Judy may have been in violation with someone in the lab named Donovan. She was promoted over him and he was fired after he flew out of the grip.
Lucifer 2.0 confirms to Chloe that he has strong feelings for her and asks for her patience. He returns to the penthouse and Maze attacks him. She’s angry that he went home without her.
She hangs him up and he says he’s not Lucifer, and Maze reminds him he has twins. This is Michael, and he has an American accent! He fluttered his wings.
She wants to know why he’s there. He explains how Gabriel, Raphael, and Remi all praised that Lucifer returned to hell. But Michael thinks Lucifer is the family rebel for no reason. He wants to prove that Lucifer is a fake, so he takes his place to pull him out and believes that Luci “will show his true colors.”
Maze disagrees and warns him that people are smart, especially Chloe. She does not want to help him, but he convinces her that he knows things and if she sticks it out with his ruse, she can enjoy hitting Lucifer later.
Michael stops at a Luxe to chat with a shocked Amenadiel. He assures him that he took care of the demon problem in hell and Charlie is safe. Amenadiel seems suspicious.
‘Lucifer’ spreads its wings
Elsewhere, Chloe and Michael / Lucifer Donovan went on strike. They go on a car at a high speed. Chloe orders him out of the car, he loads her into his Porsche, and she shoots through the windshield. Michael grabs her, spreads his wings, and drives over the car to prevent him from being hit.
They take Donovan to the headquarters and examine him. He denies murder on Judy and tells her that Brody and Judy had an affair. Brody is married, so Chloe and Michael / Luci conclude that Judy was murdered for a mistress.
While Chloe no longer tries to make contact with Brody, Dan faux approaches Lucifer to stop doing anything. It’s weird, and he thinks something’s off. Chloe comes back and says Brody’s in space, so “we” have the night away.
Michael says awkwardly that he will go home and have food, and Chloe is confused. She thinks it might be an invitation.
She appears to the penthouse with her favorite meal and runs Michael and Maze to bed. Hey, she throws the food off and runs into the elevator. She does not yet know it is not Lucifer, but he grabs the door and wants to get out. He runs the line about leaving and she just wants to be alone.
Chloe wants to move on with Lucifer
Detective Chloe and “Lucifer” go to Brody’s conference and take him to the site to ask him about Judy. He recognizes Lucifer as the person who taught him forgiveness.
Chloe asks Michael / Luci to use his “power” and he asks Brody about his biggest … fear. That certainly throws Chloe off, but Brody falls for the spell and allows himself to have the space.
Judy found out and threatened to tell everyone he did not want to go to Mars and it was all for publicity. Brody says he spent the whole night (his alibi), but will no longer speak without his lawyer.
Outside, Chloe tells false Lucifer that she empathizes with this ordeal in hell and can not imagine what he went through. She says it would be strange if he did not change and based on his experience, fear and dishonesty probably followed him back. Michael is struck by her kindness.
Over in Luxe, Linda arrives to pick up the baby, but Amenadiel is paranoid about divorcing him. He held him for 15 hours straight and tells Linda that Lucifer is back. For him, that means the demons are still a threat. Linda disagrees and calms him down by saying that Lucifer would not return if hell was not in order.
Amenadiel is pleased and points out that Luci would not lie, and then Linda shares what Chloe told her about Lucifer 2.0 being dishonest. Amenadiel is shocked but looks at what she is saying.
Maze visits Chloe at the area to apologize. Chloe remembers that both Maze and Lucifer are lonely and in love. She tells Maze that she wants to be the one who comforts Lucifer and wants to take things to the next level. For Maze, that means “out.” Chloe agrees.
At work, Luci / Michael take a coffee break and Chloe tries to seduce the vending machine. He feels awkward and she offers to come over after they resolve the matter. He can only say “OK”, but agrees with Chloe when she indicates how nice they look together while looking in the vending machine glass.
Chloe grabs an epiphany over the case and Linda comes in to talk to “Lucifer”. She wants to know who is facing hell and he dismisses her concerns by saying that it is respected. Linda is persistent and he gets her scared of being a bad mom. She runs back.
Chloe gets a rude alarm clock
Back on the case, Chloe and fake Lucifer enter Sam’s house without a guarantee. They dodge a firearm and Sam comes out with a gun. Chloe announces that she is there to arrest him, but he denies that he killed Judy. That is until they pick up the glass fiber from his carpet and the reflection of his suit in photographic material. He’s ready to turn himself in, but Andie runs out and confesses to the crime.
The night ends with Michael waiting for Chloe in the penthouse. Maze appears first and says she will not allow him to hurt Chloe. He says he wants to take over Lucifer’s life, not destroy it. He knocks Maze out with chokehold and steps her into a closet.
Chloe appears and says sweet things to him and then shoots him. She realizes it is not Lucifer and explains that she invented it when she kissed. Michael recognizes his true identity and takes a few more bullets. Chloe gives a speech about her unfounded fears about her relationship with Lucifer. She’s sick of Michael’s lies.
He offers a truth: God placed them on Earth to be Lucifer’s ‘toys’. That surprises her and he walks away. Down by Luxe Amenadiel calls him Michael and wants to know if ‘Father’ is aware that he is on earth. God does not know, but Michael threatens to play the secret about Charlie. Amenadiel tells him to go home. A quiet war rages when Amenadiel tells that Michael Luci is better than him.
Finally, Amenadiel takes a trip to hell to tell Lucifer that it’s time to get back to Earth. “Why? What happened?”
