Louisiana high school soccer games can’t start until Phase 4 of reopening, says LHSAA | High school sports

LHSAA Executive Director Eddie Bonine was consistent in his presentation to the House Education Committee, and told the group that LHSAA never said it would cancel its sports seasons.

However, Bonine also reinforced two other important points: contact soccer practices and games cannot begin until Louisiana reaches Phase 4 of its reopening and the fall and spring seasons have been discussed, but it is not the first. LHSAA option following the COVID-19 pandemic.

Bonine was one of several speakers who appeared before the House committee on Monday. Cade Brumley, the new Louisiana Superintendent of Education, and Sandy Holloway, chair of the Board of Elementary and Secondary Education, discussed plans for opening schools.

Bonine gave committee members a table that shows what athletes can do in each reopening phase. In the current state of Louisiana in Phase 2 until at least July 24, schools are locked in individual conditioning training. In Phase 3, soccer teams can conduct limited 7-on-7 intraquad contact drills.

When asked about spectators and fall sports, Bonine said those decisions would be made in cooperation with individual school districts.
