Louisiana Coronavirus: State Exceeds 100,000 Case Milestone; view the latest data | Coronavirus


Louisiana now has more than 100,000 diagnosed cases of coronavirus. It is the twelfth state to reach that milestone.

The Louisiana Department of Health reported 2,296 more coronavirus cases, 16 more deaths, and four more hospitalizations in its daily update on Thursday noon.

There were 21,967 additional test results reported to the state on Thursday. The lot positive percentage rate is 10.45%.

The positive percentage rate during the last week is 10.23%. In comparison, the Phase 1 average positive percentage rate was 4.78%.

Louisiana became the twelfth state to exceed 100,000 confirmed cases of coronavirus.

Governor John Bel Edwards is scheduled to hold a press conference at 2:30 pm Thursday to address the coronavirus in Louisiana.

Here are some key statistics at the state level:

  • Total cases: 101,650
  • Total deaths: 3,574
  • Currently hospitalized: 1,585
  • Currently in Fans: 197
  • Presumably recovered: 61,456 as of July 19 (updated weekly)

These parishes saw some of the highest numbers of recently reported cases:

  • Calcasieu: 253 more cases
  • East Baton Rouge: 250 more cases
  • Jefferson: 133 more cases
  • Lafayette: 119 more cases
  • Caddo: 103 more cases

Louisiana began reopening for Phase 1 on May 15-16, then moved to Phase 2 on June 5. Louisiana Governor John Bel Edwards announced on June 22 that the state, seeing an alarming increase in cases and hospitalizations, will remain in Phase 2 for 28 more days.
