Back in June, Dave Chappelle posted a surprise stand-up special on YouTube 8:46 that was filmed at a semi-secret stand-up show in Ohio for a small-ish audience of about 100 people. Rather than once for Chappelle to get some things out of his chest, however, that special was actually part of a semi-secret, only inviting series of shows that Chappelle has done with the permission of the governor of Ohio and a local zoning board that conducts temperature checks, promotes social distancing, and works with the surrounding community to prevent noise accidents. One thing that has not been kept in mind, however, is shameful comedians who refuse to disappear into obscurity because someone slipped through the cracks and came on stage … after she was apparently invited by Chappelle to do so.
We’re talking about Louis CK, of course, who came back earlier back in April when he published a surprise stand-up special on his website. We do not know what happened to Chappelle’s shows (apparently called “Chappelle’s Summer Camp” on social media), but The Hollywood Reporter since that photographer On August 4, Mathieu Bitton posted a photo featuring CK, Chappelle and other artists Michelle Wolf, Mo Amer, and DJ Trauma. Another photo was posted this weekend featuring CK, Sarah Silverman, Common, Tiffany Haddish, and a few other familiar faces.
THR says it heard nothing from Chappelle’s representative about CK’s performance, but we do know that Chappelle has CK support and criticism of his accusers in the special Netflix Sticks and stones (a special that saw him too criticize the Michael Jackson’s prosecutors), so it’s not particularly surprising that Chappelle apparently gives himself a platform here – although it’s a bit surprising that so many others famous people have no problem sharing a stage with a man who has allowed women squirm and force her to watch him masturbate.
