Liverpool prepares to rethink midfield when Roberto Firmino has the last chance to attack

The Premier League trophy will be proudly held aloft by Jordan Henderson and his teammates next week when Liverpool celebrate their first championship in 30 years.

As ECHO reported on Wednesday, the club plans to lift a podium at the Kop for Jurgen Klopp and his team to mark the occasion on Wednesday, July 22.

Sir Kenny Dalglish will be on hand to present the winners’ medals to the Reds, too, with the club interested in making sure the legendary Scotsman is present the day his status as Liverpool’s most recent winning league manager goes to Klopp

Before all that, however, there is a small visit from Chelsea. And Londoners will go out to spoil the party. They won’t, but they can put the weakest buffers in the procedures.

A top-three result would represent Frank Lampard’s first season success in charge at Stamford Bridge and the Blues will be desperate to end an undefeated record at home dating back more than three years in the Premier League at Anfield.

So how will Klopp make sure the focus remains absolute as the Reds seek to close the Anfield session with a flourish ahead of next week’s main event?

There were a couple of collectibles in the Emirates on Wednesday night, as both Virgil van Dijk and Alisson Becker were guilty of mistakes in the 2-1 loss at Arsenal.

However, the pair have transformed the Reds into one of the best teams on the planet, and both will keep their place with Joe Gomez sure to partner with Van Dijk at the center of the team. Trent Alexander-Arnold and Andy Robertson will complete the bottom five on the right and left, respectively.

The center of the field, as always, is the Klopp enigma. There is no Jordan Henderson, of course, and that makes things more complicated given his leadership on the field that has been absent in the past two games that have seen the Reds pick up just one point.

Perhaps an opportunity for Vice Captain James Milner? Klopp said Tuesday that the veteran should be fine to participate in this one.

It could be the ideal solution to inject some intensity and drive back to a side that has strayed from its course in the past two games.

Liverpool are Premier League champions

Fabinho is expected to retain his place, but Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain failed to convince against his old club on Wednesday night.

Naby Keita, by contrast, looked brilliant when he came on as a substitute for the second half and could be pushing for his retirement.

The Guinea international has drawn attention since the Premier League resumed and his shortage in the Emirates may have given Klopp some food for thought.

Up front, it’s the last chance for Roberto Firmino to end a season-long drought at Anfield in the Premier League.

His full game brings a lot more to this Reds attack than goals, but the Brazilian will be more than eager to make sure he doesn’t go the entire season without scoring at home. Wait for it to start.

Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane are now positioned at 21 goals each for Liverpool this season and will ensure that they end their personal seasons at Anfield at the top.

Both are likely to flank Firmino. Which will rank first?

Xherdan Shaqiri played his first minutes since January when he made a seven-minute cameo on Wednesday. It will be kept in reserve for the game, though Takumi Minamino’s lively cameo gives it a more realistic chance to get started.
