Trent could take part in Liverpool’s Community Shield clash with Alexander-Arnold Arsenal – but Jurgen Klopp remains without a host of senior first-team players as he aims for more silverware.
The Premier League champions will take the FA Cup holders to the new season on Saturday from Wembley (30.30pm) in a traditional curtain-riser.
Alexander-Arnold missed Austria’s recent training camp and did not accommodate two loving Liverpool friends, instead staying at Merseyside to work on fitness after complaining of a minor injury.
And a decision will be made late on the right, although Virgil Van Dijk is available despite being forced out in Tuesday’s 2-2 draw at Red Bull Salzburg with the upper part of his right eye.

“Trent is very close, we have to make a decision tomorrow,” Liverpool boss Klopp said on Friday afternoon.
“Virgil looks okay. It doesn’t look good because he has a cut, but other than that he should be okay.”
The game comes too soon for Jordan Henderson and Joel Matip, both of whom missed the final week of last season with knee and foot problems, respectively, but should return to full training next week.
Zardan Shakiri and Harry Wilson are hoping for the following claim, while Alex Xlade-Chamberlain is slowly advancing his recovery from a knee injury.
Klopp added, “All the (other) boys who haven’t been involved so far or have been able to push a little in the pre-season will not be available for tomorrow, but (close), really close, getting closer and closer.
“Hopefully after the Arsenal game most of them can start full training, but now the game is a little too early for them. Maybe one or two will be involved in the team, we’ll see.
“It simply came to our notice then. Hendo and Joel looking well. Ox, even better in the early stages. Vegetables, good. Harry looks great. “
Ryan Brewster had a 0-0 win over Stuttgart last week against Salzburg and scored twice against Salzburg as an alternative to the second half.
And Klopp has confirmed the 20-year-old, who has made 22 appearances on loan at Swansea City earlier this year, will join Wembley.
“We have to see what happens in the next few weeks,” he said when asked about future plans for the striker. “We want to use Ryan and help him too. We have to make decisions, but not now.
“He’s still a little boy. The experience of number nine helps a lot. We have to see how the experience is given to him, whether he’s here or somewhere else. We don’t have to rush anything.
“He’s here for now and he’ll be on the team tomorrow.”
