Aušra Petrauskienė is from Joniškis. He moved to Žagarė 11 years ago with a specific goal: to establish a factory for the majority of prisoners, a place where the community can meet and education take place.
There are many prisoners in the artist’s life. “When I made so many blacksmiths, wherever I see the cross, I immediately associate them with the blacksmith. Cemeteries are no exception ”, smiles the teacher.
I’m glad work is a hobby
The popular artist, in her life, was very lucky that her greatest hobby became work and lifestyle.
Blacksmithing is the best meditation for Dawn. His work has been unconventional in the past. From the age of twenty, he created dolls from which he lived a long life. “It just came to our attention then. After earning money and graduating from them, I finished my studies,” says the artist.
Upon arriving in Žagarė, he founded the most forged factory, where he now teaches the most forged cooking lessons for children and adults.

I’m glad no one taught you
Although Aušra started the scarecrow movement in Žagarė, he claims that he cannot say how to make a scarecrow.
“On the contrary, you mean: create what you want, and I’ll go see the piece,” says the teacher.
She believes that the scarecrow production process should be dominated by individual creation, not by rules or advice. “Everyone has a scarecrow version on their mind,” he smiles.
The artist is glad that no one has taught him to make dolls or scarecrows. Only by exploring, educating herself, did she discover her creative style.
While completing her education, the teacher tries to tell the story of most prisoners, introduce people to this trade, and help them implement their ideas.

The process of doing what is most wrought cannot be serious
The woman says that the forge production process cannot be serious. Sometimes adults come to education with a very serious attitude, “like serious work.” In this case, Aušra tries to cheer them up and help them relax: they offer to take a boat ride, eat, talk, and only when people finally relax do they offer a scarecrow.
Finally, when everyone is having fun, the scarecrow master asks, “Now do you understand how to create a scarecrow?” During her many years of experience in scarf making, the artist noted that the most fun experience for a company or family is to create a scarecrow together.
The artist says that it is easier for children to teach lessons for most prisoners because they don’t see creativity as serious work. In education, they make little palm-sized scarecrows.
Aušra not only has a prisoner factory and a dollhouse, but also works as an art teacher at the Žagarė gym. If there are children at school with whom Aušra disagrees during the lessons, when they come to the most popular factory, they immediately manage to make friends.
“We make nightgowns, we go to the horses at night, they spend the night here, so we make great friends,” smiles the artist.
In Žagarė, houses are sold with scarecrows
One year Aušra had the idea to decorate the city with scarves before the Cherry Festival. He made scarecrows with the factory equipment and asked that they be allowed to display them in the backyards of the local population.
Žagarė has the hymn of the prisoners, they became the face of the city.
A small idea has become an annual tradition for the entire community: building scarecrows in patios. During the Cherry Festival, scarecrows become a fun center for the people of Žagariai: they collect the most beautiful scarecrows, organize races, demonstrations, swimming competitions, count talents.
One year, dressed as a scarecrow, he even tried to reach the world record for scarecrows live. In this test, with almost 800 prisoners they defeated England, but China surpassed them. Žagarė has the hymn of the prisoners, they became the face of the city.

In Žagarė, the production of prisoners is so ingrained that new resettled residents find the scarves of former owners in their yards. The people of Žagarė now continue the tradition, the scarecrows are born without the efforts of the artist. Dawn can only be glad that she contributed to the birth of a new tradition.
A few weeks before the Cherry Festival, the artist travels around the city in the afternoons, collecting photos of the majority of the prisoners from her population and making a map of the majority of the prisoners. Every scarecrow raised is very important to her. According to the map, tourists coming to town can walk around the area and admire the ingenious scarves that adorn residents’ patios.
Scarecrows often say a lot about the people who raised them. For example, if you are dressed in a builder’s clothing, there is definitely a builder in the family who made it, and if it is a scarecrow with a guitar, it is definitely a musician. A woman produced a pair of prisoners: the youngest and the youngest. When the teacher asked her why she was doing this, she replied, “I want a son.” take the control“

The artist moved to Žagarė already knowing what she would do. If the locals had feared her about her own work, the Blacksmith Factory would hardly have survived to this day.
When the idea of making scarecrows came to him, his father warned him to be careful because he thought such ideas might be difficult to find on campus. But next to the woman there were people who believed in the ideas of Blacksmith Factory. Without them, the artist believes that she could not have helped the people create this tradition.
Those who didn’t believe laughed, later on often starting to make scarecrows, listening to tourists praise a neighbor’s scarecrow. “In the beginning, the most important thing was to support the person saying that you are not stupid if you make a scarecrow,” smiles the artist.
Once a man taunted her by telling her that she was fooling around in her life, either with dolls or with scarecrows. The artist then showed her a full report from the business center on how many educations she had carried out over the years. After viewing the list, the man no longer had anything to say. “Making fun doesn’t matter to me, because the numbers show something else, people are interested and come from even the farthest corners of Lithuania,” says Aušra.
A couple of years ago, a woman found out that July 5 is World Prisoners Day. The artist was very happy, now she is looking for like-minded people not only in Lithuania, but also abroad.
