The delta strain spreads much faster, the sick person secretes significantly more virus particles, and infection occurs more easily.
“It takes a few dozen, maybe even seconds in the same environment for an infection to occur,” the professor told Lietuvos Rytas “New Day” television show.
On Wednesday, Health Minister Arūnas Dulkys clarified that people who visit the outdoor terraces of cafes but without the possibility of a passport will be able to use the doors of public catering establishments only if they wish to enter the bathroom. You will also need to wear a mask.
According to S. Čaplinskas, people should understand that face masks are necessary not only where there are other customers of the cafe or restaurant, but also in the bathrooms themselves.
“A person will be in a room where there may be a particularly high risk of infection. He will not even think about who needs that mask, where he is alone, there is nothing else around,” the professor warned.
He stressed that people should not blindly follow the restrictions and recommendations. Precautionary measures should be better explained to the public. Then there is a higher level of personal motivation.
“This is just one example that only an informed human decision about how to behave in one situation or another can help better manage a pandemic,” added S. Čaplinskas.
Quarantine is not offered
On the last day, 1298 cases of the virus were detected in Lithuania. The last time more new cases of the virus were detected was more than four months ago, on May 11 (1,305 cases).
It can be remembered that in Lithuania, which was fighting the effects of the alpha variety in the spring, there was quarantine and social life was still restricted. With a similar number of illnesses, cafes and restaurants were closed, food was delivered only to the home.
However, S. Čaplinskas assured that he does not believe that the epidemiological situation should be improved by quarantine. “We just realized that quarantine was not the answer.
This is just a delay in resolving the problem. Until you know what to do, a health care system will be established and vaccines will be developed and implemented. Now we have all this, “said S. Čaplinskas.
According to him, if there was still talk of the confinement, it would mean that the lessons of the pandemic would remain unlearned.
It is time to accept the “new reality”
According to the virologist, the jump in new diseases should not surprise us in the fall. “It just came to our knowledge then. And the experts from the World Health Organization warned that when they return to the collectives in autumn, when it is cold, the conditions for the spread of the virus will be even better,” explained S. Čaplinskas.
Asked if the passports of opportunity help to control the spread of the virus, the professor emphasized that it is not the documents that help to combat the pandemic, but the people’s conscience, understanding that precautions must continue to be taken in the context of the pandemic.
“A QR code, whether on paper or digital, does not really stop the spread by itself. Another thing is that certain movement and contact restrictions are necessary, whether the person is vaccinated or not.
Yes, the fact that the passport of opportunity vaccinates undecided people is a fact. On the other hand, it is very important to have a clear motivation, an understanding of why one should act in one way or another.
We will tell you why you need to get vaccinated, get tested, wear a medical mask, ventilate the premises, etc. The Passport of Opportunities probably does not perform such a function. The most important thing is communication, the education of people and the perceived behavior of each one of us and, more precisely, the correction of behavior ”, taught S. Čaplinskas.
According to him, it is time to get used to the idea that you will have to be careful with the virus.
“The virus came with everything. It has been established not only among humans but also among some animals on all continents. Why should it suddenly disappear? It will not go anywhere. It means that we have to adapt and change our approach to the virus and consequently mutual communication, ”added S. Čaplinskas.
Passport of opportunity “cons”
The professor pointed out that the passport of opportunities can have not only positive but also negative effects. For example, when the doors of supermarkets are closed, those who do not have a passport cannot visit the pharmacies there. For someone, it was perhaps the closest pharmacy.
“Imagine if a person was used to visiting a fruit that is close and comfortable for him, then now a person will not be able to enter. I think something is wrong here ”, expressed S.Čaplinskas his doubts about the possibilities of the passport process.
He recalled that it was only after discussions that the idea of denying access to public transport to non-immunized people was abandoned. “He shrugged his shoulders and wondered who could have made such a proposal to health politicians,” the professor wondered.
