Ryanair will build its base at Frankfurt Hahn airport. The Irish low-cost airline made this decision when German pilots did not accept a pay cut.
In a statement on the sheets and on the other flight crew, Ryanair states that aircraft service bases can be established at Berlin Tegel and Düsseldorf airports by the end of the summer.
In the fight against the aftermath of the coronavirus, which has drastically reduced flights as a result of travel restrictions, Ryanair has offered pilots and flight crews to agree to cut payments to save jobs. The UK recently supported the offer, reports the BBC.
Ryanair does not indicate how much the changes in Germany will be affected in the workplace. In May Ryanair announced plans to cut 3,000 jobs across Europe.
Vereinigung Cockpit, a German airline union, said that less than half of the pilots supported the pay cut. We believe the deal could harm the entire German pilot community, says the union.
Ryanair, for its part, argues that the proposed reduction in compensation is justified in light of the current volume of flights, noting that a second wave of coronavirus could lead to flights.
During negotiations with the unions, we said from the beginning that if the results of the vote were unfavorable, the next solution would be to fire the workers. Surprisingly, the union is reaching an agreement, knowing full well that the result will be a loss of base and jobs, Ryanair says.
