Why The Shadow Government Doesn’t Really Include Skvernel – Sent Multiple Versions

S. Skvernel himself assured that such a decision is a polite rejection, because, in his eyes, the shadow cabinet must be made up of all the opposition forces.

Political scientists unanimously agreed that the best answers on why S. Skvernelis, but R. Karbauskis, really became the shadow prime minister, are known to politicians themselves. Time will also reveal the real reasons. However, this composition of the shadow cabinet sends certain signals about possible disagreements or changes within the party.

Inside the party – profound changes

“This may be unexpected for many and confuse the approach of LVŽS. S. Skvernelis attracted many fans and supporters with his image and ability to communicate. I think there are profound changes in the game itself and we will see how things continue,” he commented Lauras Bielinis, professor and political scientist at Vytautas Magnus University (VMU).

The professor did not rule out that LVŽS could have demanded that S. Skvernelis join the party and, if he did not agree, he was not appointed shadow prime minister.

“It should not be ruled out that S. Skvernelis was offered to join the party. He refused. In this case, it is the shadow government of a party, and the election is largely won not by a party, but by a coalition of parties, which forms the government. Perhaps S. Skvernelis will have the opportunity to form a joint government if the peasants and the political groups favorable to them win the elections “, predicted political scientist L. Bielinis.

It is the fact that the shadow government is the shadow government of a party, not of the entire opposition, as said by L. Bielinis’ colleague, Vytautas Magnus University professor, political scientist Šarūnas Liekis and himself. S. Skvernelis, which can be a very significant factor. moment in evaluating the choice of your leader.

“What is the purpose of that shadow government – to point the finger at those in power who are wrong? In very rare cases, shadow governments have all the oppositions, usually they are made up of a party ”, Š. Liekis.

However, according to Professor L. Bielinis of the Vytautas Magnus University, the issue of the shadow government can cause considerable tensions or displacement within the LVŽS party.

“Like it or not, the fact that Skvernel is not leading the shadow government raises a lot of questions. At the same time, it can really cause a lot of tension in the party itself,” he said.

Considering possible tensions within the party and possible disagreements between R. Karbauskis and S. Skvernelis, Š. Liekis asked to take a look at the general list of the shadow cabinet. He gave the example of the shadow foreign minister, Giedrius Surplis, assuring him that he is visible as the man from S. Skvernelis.

Composition of the cabinet of ministers in the shadow of the peasants headed by R. Karbauskis:

Minister of the Environment: Ligita Girskienė
Minister of Energy: Arvydas Nekrošius
Minister of Economy and Innovation: Deividas Labanavičius
Finance Minister: Valius Ąžuolas
Minister of National Defense: Dainius Gaižauskas
Minister of Culture: Aušrinė Norkienė
Minister of Social Security and Labor: Tomas Tomilinas
Minister of Transport and Communications: Arvydas Vaitkus
Minister of Health: Aurelijus Veryga
Minister of Education, Science and Sports: Eugenijus Jovaiša
Minister of Justice: Agnė Širinskienė
Minister of Foreign Affairs: Giedrius Surplys
Minister of the Interior: Guoda Burokienė
Minister of Agriculture: Kęstutis Mažeika

Distributed positions?

There were rumors in the public sphere that S. Skvernelis should become the leader of the opposition after discovering a consensus with other factions of the opposition. Another version was heard: until a consensus can be found between the opposition factions, the LVŽS with 32 parliamentarians in its faction, only a couple of members of the Seimas are missing so that the peasants can nominate their candidate – which is S Skvernelis – for the position of leader of the opposition.

For this reason, according to Vytautas University professor Magnus Š. Balance, possible post-split scenario.

“Perhaps we will see a division of roles: S. Skvernelis will be the leader of the opposition and R. Karbauskis will be the head of the shadow government. Such a version is really possible,” assured Š. Liekis.

L. Bielinis critically evaluated such a possibility.

“It is normal that S. Skvernelis hopes or hopes for the position of leader of the opposition. But these two things do not interfere with each other, he can go to both positions at the same time, “noted L. Bielinis.

S. Balance: everything depends on a long-term strategy

S. Liekis stressed that the shadow cabinet and its importance should not be overstated. He said that politicians are now beginning to think about the next elections and that is much more important than a shadow cabinet.

“It all depends on the strategy: what strategy LVŽS is coming up with. The logic may be based on the fact that S. Skvernelis is not worth exploiting now, because it will be very necessary and important in a couple of years, when they get closer the next elections to the Seimas.

The purpose of the shadow government is to participate in some criticism of the real government. S. Skvernelis is likely to become more visible and important later on. Everything that is being done now is being done for the next elections ”, explained the political scientist.
