The advice of the psychologist

We asked Aistė Kulvietė, a psychologist at the Kaunas City Council Public Health Office, about how to behave in such a situation when there is an elevator in the elevator and there is fear.

According to her, a panic attack begins when a person interprets a situation as dangerous. The danger instinct is awakened in your body: the muscles are tense, you begin to sweat and breathe quickly. Therefore, in the event of a panic attack, you must first adjust your breathing.

“To breathe properly, you can put your right hand on your chest and your left hand on your abdomen. Breathing should be done so that the chest does not rise and the right hand does not move and the left hand moves as much as possible. This means that we must inflate the abdomen when we inhale, and include it when we exhale, that is, we must not breathe in the chest but in the abdomen. In this way, more oxygen enters the body “, emphasized the psychologist.

According to the specialist, inhalation should be shorter than exhalation: you should count to two for inhalation and up to four for exhalation.
