When he brought his mother to the hospital because of a stroke, he was horrified: why is there so much communication with loved ones?

According to K. Jakšienė, his honorable mother, who lives in Biržai, suffered a stroke last week. The eldest was taken by ambulance to the Panevėžys Republican Hospital by ambulance and taken to the reception department, while the daughter was waiting at the reception. During the three-hour wait, Panevėžys heard her mother’s moans and screams, but none of the staff members came to report her health.

“I wait an hour, two, three, and I don’t know how my loved one feels. In the corridor, the doctors and sisters feel that they are in a recreational park, they joke and do not run anywhere. Later he explains that we are not scared, as if he knew his work perfectly. Maybe we, our relatives, react too sensitively to everything in such a situation, but that definitely should not be the case, ”says K. Jakšienė.

According to the woman, even stranger things started later. Her mother was first placed in a quarantine unit and was only transferred to a second Department of Neurology after receiving negative results from the COVID test. He soon received a call to buy diapers, wipes, and other hygiene items. Since it is prohibited to bring the patient into the ward, the package is ordered to be left at the designated door on the hospital door.

“A mustachioed guy with a cigarette in his teeth stands in the guard tower and says: we are not a parcel service and we cannot transfer the items you brought by Veryga’s order. I ask you how do I get the toiletries. if they can’t take them to the compartment? Then the mustachioed guy says, “Take me here, out in the cart, come pick me up tomorrow. Tomorrow, what if it rains? No one is interested in that, because no one is obligated,” said K. Jakšienė.

He asked for a cake for the sisters.

Panevėžys tried to contact the doctor who was treating her mother, but the answered sister complained in a high tone that she was not taking care of her mother because she had not brought the necessary hygiene products and diapers. Supposing to leaf through such a patient is too difficult.

“Does the doctor work with seriously ill people and complains that he can’t deliver them? That maybe then you shouldn’t be working in that department. He surprised me and asked if he had brought in a cowboy from the street if the high pitch was like that. But then an even bigger shout started. If this is the way the patient’s family members communicate in this way, you can only imagine how patients are treated, “the behavior of hospital staff has so far not surprised women. women.

She heard a complaint from her sister that her mother, holding onto the bed rail with her good hand, was screaming that she was afraid of falling. According to K. Jakšienė, such fears of the mother are completely understandable, because even in the admission department, when they got up from the ambulance to the hospital bed, they almost threw her away, because the brakes on the bed were not even locked. But instead of admitting their mistake, the staff attacked loved ones for failing to help transport patients.

Panevėžys fears that if doctors allow themselves to speak to the patient’s relatives in this way, this is how they communicate with the patients themselves, who due to their difficult condition cannot even defend themselves. K. Jakšienė said that her mother has a phone with her, but cannot use it due to her state of health. Once she asked her sister to help her call her daughter. During the brief conversation, the mother was able to tell through her tears that she was very scared and that her daughter would bring a cake or cake to the sisters, perhaps they would become a little softer.

“It just caught our eye then. Mom’s request is a little strange, but partly understandable. I have received an offer from more than one person to deliver an envelope immediately, as if in such cases the situation would improve immediately. I know that many older adults give puppets just to take care of them more, but my opinion on those things is different, “said the interlocutor.

Is caring for a mother not a daughter’s business?

According to K. Jakšienė, contacting the doctor treating the mother is the same as catching shooting stars, although her phone number is written in the medical history. The woman said she was concerned about her mother’s health and also had several questions about the treatment. She learned that the patient was being given medications to increase urine, so she just wanted to know if potassium supplements were needed, because a sudden loss of fluids could only make things worse for her mother.

“The doctor on call didn’t even know that that patient had been treated in her ward for two days. She supposedly has 30-40 patients, so she can’t see everyone. If something goes wrong, the sisters will report it. But after All in all, the doctor’s job is to avoid all patients and assess their condition. When I asked her about her mother’s health and why she was allowed to drink large amounts of fluids, she rudely said that it was not my business and hung up. ” K. Jakšienė cannot be surprised by the doctor’s behavior.

After that glow, he could no longer remain silent and shared the painful experience on his social media account. None of the hospital representatives commented on the situation, but several people responded, who also faced disrespectful behavior or a lack of basic humanity at Panevėžys Hospital.

“A woman said she was surprised to get permission to visit for twenty minutes. Her father was tied to the bed because she was allegedly inadequate. Patients are taken to bed to eat, and if someone has missed it, it is already their problem. But a bound or paralyzed person would not even eat. The sisters themselves told me that no one feeds the patients, they have to eat themselves. But how to do it, if a person does not get out of bed, he cannot even turn to one side. We can turn around or feed, but now nobody lets loved ones enter the hospital, so defenseless patients are treated as they please. “Such a thing has to end, people can’t be marinated that much,” the woman said.

Leaders are changing, problems persist

Panevėžys is still awaiting comment from the hospital manager, because he has truly read his publicly shared experience at the medical institution. He is surprised that a new director was in charge of the Panevėžys Republican Hospital not long ago, but the problems remain the same. The situation in the reception department is particularly difficult. According to K. Jakšienė, people will die not from a dangerous coronavirus, but because adequate help for other diseases will not be provided.

“It is not the first such painful experience with our hospital, I just cannot keep quiet.” The daughter almost died in her hands due to medical indifference, and now the mother. But this is not possible. This is a state medical institution, not a place of genocide or some kind of killing machine, ”K. Jakšienė did not hide his outrage.

In his opinion, many residents of Panevėžys have already encountered the peculiarities of the work of the reception department.

People are afraid to turn, to suffer until health deteriorates greatly. And often patients come and complain that they came to the hospital because of very few ailments.

“There is a lot of psychological violence and negativity there. Sometimes such a change occurs, when you not only provide help urgently, but also reassure. However, it happens that the child in your hands seems to be dying, you ask for ransom, but the doctor in his office drinks coffee and still screams what we are making noise here. I’m not saying that all doctors are bad, there really are good doctors who I sincerely lean towards for their work, but experience shows that there are those who are not trustworthy to treat animals. Sometimes you need to have elemental humanity, not scream when the patient can’t turn, or not moan the commandments, because those moans are supposed to be heard anyway, “said K. Jakšienė.

Without a formal complaint, the investigation will not begin

Vytautas Riaubiškis, a spokesman for the Panevėžys Republican Hospital, stated that the hospital’s director, Arvydas Skorupskas, had seen K. Jakšienė’s experience in the social space spread, but declined to comment on this matter. After all, entry into electronic space is not yet a basis for initiating an internal investigation.

“We do not have a statement or her own consent to comment on this situation, we cannot open any internal investigation as there have been no complaints. There are certain procedures that we must follow. If something was probably done or not done, she has to write a statement or complaint on behalf of the director of our hospital, so the head of the institution has reason to take certain measures, “explained the hospital representative.

When asked why the number of complaints about the hospital’s work, especially the reception department, is only increasing, V. Riaubiškis declined to comment.

“I would not comment on the matter, and if so. Each medical institution has a different experience, I cannot speak generally as to why this is the case,” said V. Riaubiškis.
