“That virus really loves healthy and athletic people, just like Brother Arūnas. He was full of enthusiasm,” his brother Franciscan Algirdas Malakauskis told LNK news.

The disease touched the Franciscan monastery a month ago, then Brother Arūnas Brazauskas returned from the Czech Republic by car and felt he had a fever. The other brothers advised him to get tested for coronavirus, the answer was yes.

The monastery was immediately disinfected. Since then, all the monks have been examined at least three times. Brother Algirdas said that at the beginning there was hope, the doctors also gave it. But in recent weeks, Brother Arūnas’ health began to deteriorate and an artificial lung was placed on him.

“He was a very serious patient, he called the hospital every day, the doctors did what they could, we are very grateful for that. But the news was getting sadder and sadder, ”Brother Algirdas said.

Brother Arūnas, 54, died Tuesday night at the Santara Clinics. The monk who lived in the monastery of the revelation of the Lord in Kretinga served as a priest for 13 years. As the other brothers say, over the years they have met many people whom they will remember as a sincere, fun and enthusiastic priest.

“The Mass was like that, I can’t even say it, it was very warm and good, it was very beautiful during the Mass. And now it’s a shame, “said a parishioner.

Rolanda Lingienė, head of the Vilnius department of the National Center for Public Health (NVSC), says the deceased had comorbidities.

“It has been hypothesized that this person was infected during his stay in the Czech Republic, and earlier, because he returned from the Czech Republic on July 3. And he became ill on July 5, the diagnosis was confirmed on July 7 ”Said R. Lingienė on Wednesday.

Next week the so-called population survey will be launched. Invitations to conduct a coronavirus test will be sent to residents of Vilnius, Kaunas, Klaipėda and Ukmergė, Tauragė and Zarasai districts. People will be selected randomly, but will reflect the composition of the population in these 6 regions.

In total, invitations will be sent to 13 thousand residents and it is expected to study around 6.5 thousand. Twice as many invitations will be sent because not all people will respond and come for the test. Population testing is scheduled to take about a month.

The latest victim of the coronavirus will be cremated and buried in Kretinga. The funeral will take place on Tuesday at 11 a.m. Brother Arūnas is a victim of 81 coronavirus in Lithuania.
