What if COVID-19 crashed into the school? Would everything have to close?

If a case of coronavirus were detected in a school, the case would be investigated by the NVSC in response 15 minutes specified by the Ministry of Education, Science and Sports (MESM).

In such a situation, the NVSC could assign 14 days of isolation to one or more classes after identifying the exposed individuals.

If the recommendations are followed, it is highly unlikely that the entire school will close.

“If all the guidelines are followed to prevent the spread of coronavirus in schools, it is highly unlikely that the whole school will be closed. In this case, the telework plan would not be valid for the whole school, but only for students in self-isolation ”, ŠMSM explained.

Distance learning can generally be organized in two ways: synchronously with video lessons and asynchronously according to the tasks assigned by teachers.

If a coronavirus is detected in an educational institution and some students have to return to distance education, both synchronous and asynchronous learning methods should be combined, the ministry said.

Also, in this case, at least half of the scheduled lessons should take place synchronously, and the uninterrupted time of video lessons should not exceed 2 hours.

“The timetable of the lessons in distance learning can be the same as in school, and it can also be adjusted: the decision is made by the specific school,” said the answer.

“The most important goal is for students to acquire the necessary knowledge and skills, regardless of the way they study,” he added.
