Warn the unemployed: You risk losing benefits if you quit your job

A press release said 362 people lost their unemployment status in June after turning down a job offer without good reason. In July, there were up to 815, and in August, until the 24th of the month, 674 people.

“The job search subsidy arose to urgently protect the population from poverty and sudden loss of income. In times of crisis, it is more effective to apply the most universal support formula possible, since it is not possible to assess situations of different people very quickly. For this reason, there are no special requirements to receive a jobseeker allowance other than being registered as unemployed with the Employment Service.

However, we want to encourage residents to accept job offers presented by the Employment Service: a stable income is always better than a temporary benefit, and if you quit a job offer without a justifiable reason, you may lose the benefits themselves ”Said Eglė Radišauskienė, Deputy Minister of Social Security and Labor.

It is common for the Employment Service to provide vacancies to the unemployed population based on the qualifications, skills, work experience of the person and, taking into account that the travel expenses to and from work do not exceed 15% per month. proposed salary. It also takes into account whether the person has no officially approved health restrictions for the job offered.

However, there are cases where people registered as unemployed reject job offers for various reasons. Andžela Jakienė, Advisor to the Klaipėda Customer Service Department of the Employment Service, told Tauragė Courier that sometimes the reasons are justified: quarantine, state of health, long-distance travel to the workplace. But there are other reasons.

“If the distance to work is not great and the job offer corresponds to the experience and qualifications available, the rejection of the offer is not justified. Over the past two months, 14 residents of the Tauragė district have lost benefits due to the rejection of job offers. Very often people with low qualifications turn down job offers, ”said A. Jakienė.

According to the Employment Service Advisor, it is interesting that 1,506 people were employed in the first seven months of 2019, and this year 1,424 were employed in the same period. In the end, it has a great impact.

It is important to know that rejecting a job offer without a specific serious reason loses not only the job search benefit, but also social security unemployment, if any. In addition, said person will not be able to register as unemployed for the next six months.

The temporary job search allowance for the relaxation of quarantine restrictions is paid to unemployed residents who are registered with the Employment Service and do not receive training or participate in vocational training or other active labor market measures.

The Ministry of Social Security and Labor recalls that the duration of payment of the temporary job search benefit can be up to 6 months, but not longer than 2020. December 31 This benefit is paid by the Employment Service and can receive two amounts : EUR 200, when a person is not entitled to the usual unemployment benefit from social security, or EUR 42, when an unemployed person can claim unemployment benefit based on seniority.

The temporary job search benefit paid by the Employment Service is granted to around 179 thousand. persons.
