This is the highest rating ever achieved by Lithuanian universities in the QS global university ranking, significant not only for the VU itself, but also for the entire Lithuanian education system.

“Admission among the top 400 universities in the world is a significant achievement for all Lithuanian higher education, demonstrating the fact that our country has all the prerequisites for the highest level of science and international studies.

I am convinced that we are capable of establishing ourselves among the best universities in the world, to adhere to the highest standards as understood in the international scientific community. But this requires constant constructive dialogue with public authorities so that funding for science and studies allows planning with a long-term perspective.

We show that we can achieve and exceed the goals set, the State must show that it takes education seriously as a priority line ”, says prof. Rector of VU. Rimvydas Petrauskas.

VU has been ranked in the QS world rankings among more than 1,500 higher education institutions for almost a decade, and during this time it has risen to more than 200 positions in total. First evaluated in 2014. VU rated 601-650. Currently, being in position 400, VU represents Lithuania in setting high scientific standards, which increasingly contribute to the attraction of researchers of international level and become a serious competitor of prestigious European universities.

“We are proud of the academic community of Vilnius University: their efforts strengthen not only the image of the university, but also that of the city in the world. Having been in the top 400 this time around, VU has once again shown that it has the energy to grow and create innovative ideas, ”says Vilnius Mayor Remigijus Šimašius.

This year, VU ranks exceptionally high at 135 in terms of teaching quality. Based on its academic reputation, having risen to more than 27 positions since last year, this year VU ranks 400 and 434, according to employers.

When compiling the QS world university rankings, higher education institutions are evaluated according to a total of six criteria: academic reputation, employer reputation, citations by faculty and faculty student), proportion of foreign professors (international faculty) and the number of international students.
