“The Vilnius Festival of Lights is light in the dark, literally and figuratively. In the context of today’s problems, we need a positive, good-humored and light atmosphere, so I am glad that thanks to tireless creators we can admire the third Vilnius Festival of Light. I invite all Vilnius residents and guests of the city not to miss the opportunity to see the capital in a different light. Although the facilities are in open spaces, protect yourself and those around you, avoid gatherings, ”said Edita Tamošiūnaitė, Deputy Mayor of Vilnius City Municipality.

This year, the festival invites you to start your journey in the new Paupis district of the capital and continue using the festival’s mobile application: travel through the winding streets of the old town, visit the illuminated green squares of the New Town, the squares and admire the panorama. view of Vilnius from Taurus Hill.

The road is displayed in the mobile application.

An updated mobile application, which can be downloaded or updated here or here, helps visitors to the Vilnius Festival of Lights to overcome the route that connects two dozen artistic light installations created by Lithuanian and foreign artists, and it is easier find and visit all the objects.

16 artists present their works at the festival: 9 Lithuanian creators and 7 foreign guests. They invite visitors to learn about the art of light on the festival route that connects old and new Vilnius. Additionally, various integrated art and lighting design solutions await visitors at the festival.

One of the brightest participants in the 3rd Vilnius Festival of Lights is Vėjas Aliukas, the creator of sculptures and light installations and interactive objects.

The artist, who has been creating intensively since 2015, while studying at the Sculpture Department of the Vilnius Academy of Arts, tends towards large-format works that analyze a person’s relationship with the surrounding reality. The creator tries to change the perception of space with his objects. The author does not try to create a narrative, he leaves the freedom to create a story for the viewer.

There are also a couple of facilities on the Route of the Festival of Lights, which, unfortunately, do not have easy access. These are the installation “Process” by Kotryna Čalkaitė installed on the outside terrace of the MO Museum and the work “Connection” by Vėjo Aliukas in the Petras Cvirka square. Therefore, you are asked to evaluate your insurance move options in advance.

For those who have visited Radu Ignat’s “Hope” art installation on Taurus Hill, it is recommended to go to Gediminas Avenue, a pedestrian path along V. Kudirkos Street, without going down the Taurus Hill stairs.

Good news for those returning from the beach on Sunday: on the last night, the Vilnius Festival of Lights will be open until 1pm night, so some hurried vacationers will still be able to visit as well.

A shiny new object on the festival route.
