“I’m lucky, I was born a second time,” says Rapolas from Vilnius. The husband got infected with the coronavirus from his wife who worked at the Vilnika sewing house in Vilnika. In spring, this sewing house was one of the sources of the coronavirus.

A woman is easily infected with a coronavirus infection. At first, Rapolas had no serious complaints either, the man was only bothered by the temperature jump. But later, terrible trials awaited him.

“He took me to an infection hospital, took my blood and I don’t remember anymore. Then I lay in resuscitation for 34 days, ventilated my lungs for 26 days, was in a coma for 2 weeks, ”the man told LNK News.

In total, Rapol had coronavirus for 3 months. The man had almost no functioning internal organs.

“I learned to walk again because I had already forgotten how to do it, it is only thanks to the doctors,” he said.

Although it has been more than 120 days since the illness began, he still feels weak.

“It just came to our knowledge then. One side of the body is still a little thawed, but in general everything is improving,” said the interlocutor about his condition.

Man works as a forwarding conductor, transports building materials, unloads them, so physical strength is needed for such work. Rapolas hopes to be able to work, although, as he says, it worries him.

The case of Vaidas Vyšniauskas, an opera soloist infected with coronavirus, is a little different: the man remained in resuscitation for 2 weeks, he was transfused with the blood plasma of an infected patient. Although the soloist had already recovered from the coronavirus, he interacted with the LNK’s knowledge from the hospital ward.

“I have two negative tests, although the virus is no longer in the body, but the consequences persist: the lungs are not completely free yet.” It will take a little longer, maybe at least a week for sure. I cough a little, but when you breathe in the air you feel that you are getting somewhere, you cannot breathe with all your lungs, “said the opera soloist about the effects of the coronavirus.

The soloist receives antibiotics 4 times a day for 20 days, he still needs an oxygen mask.

Doctors note that most severe coronavirus patients have been feeling the effects of the disease for months. Several dozen of these patients have already visited Santara clinics alone.

Edita Strumilienė, a pulmonologist at the Santara Clinics, spoke about the rarest symptoms of the coronavirus.

“Most people still complain of general weakness, tiredness, increased sweating, shortness of breath, shortness of breath, and decreased exercise tolerance. Some of these are nonspecific symptoms: such as hair loss, migrating jaw, pain on the surface of the skin. For some, taste and smell do not recover in a few months, “the pulmonologist told LNK News.

Patients also remain damaged in bronchi, lungs, and this refers to patients who do not suffer from chronic diseases.

There is no specific treatment for the coronavirus and patients are receiving symptomatic treatment. As there are still no drugs for this disease, Lithuania participates in the World Health Organization (WHO) international study “Solidarity”.

The patients are in experimental treatment, it turns out that a new experimental drug will soon arrive in the country.

“Now we can have 4 branches in this treatment: it can be just a standard therapy, the second – rendesivir, the third – interferon beta and the fourth branch – another drug that has not yet reached Lithuania, but we hope it will arrive” – LNK News said Ligita Jančiorienė, director of the Center for Infectious Diseases at the Santara Clinics.

Almost 50 patients participated in the Solidarity study, but our doctors still cannot say which experimental drugs are most effective.
