“The end of the Second World War did not bring peace to Lithuania, like other Baltic countries and Central Europe, only more terror and victims. The political consequences of this war were actually eliminated only in 1990-1993, when Lithuania regained its independence and the last units of the Russian army were withdrawn from its territory, ”said National Defense Minister Arvydas Anušauskas.

Together with the Chief of Defense Staff of the Lithuanian Armed Forces, Brigadier General Mindaugas Steponavičius, he laid flowers at the monument to Jonas Žemaitis-Vytautas under the Ministry of National Defense.

The honoring and flower laying ceremonies were performed by the soldiers of the Honorary Guard Corps of the Lithuanian Armed Forces on behalf of the leaders of the Republic of Lithuania and the diplomatic corps of foreign countries.
