Vice Minister: Additional restrictions will be decided next week

“There will be clarity at the beginning of next week. Given the situation we have today to keep the beds occupied, the number of illnesses is increasing, certain decisions will be made,” said the BNS deputy minister.

He said he could not detail the restrictions under consideration at this time because they had not been finally agreed between the ministries.

On Wednesday, the Cabinet of Ministers agreed that new restrictions will be introduced in the run-up to the 300-bed limit for occupied COVID-19 patients. Currently, the hospital cares for 136 people.

The government decision stipulates that contact activities, with some exceptions, would only be allowed to holders of a passport.

According to A. Bilotienė-Motiejūnienė, currently the occupancy of hospital beds is growing moderately, but the mentioned limit could be reached in the coming weeks.

“The curve is increasing, so our goal is to protect the health system so that people can get other services,” he said.

Higher hospital workloads may also threaten Vilnius

According to the deputy minister, the worst situation in Klaipeda County. Slightly less than half of all people with coronavirus receive treatment here: 58 out of 139 patients.

According to her, this was due to the flow of vacationers to the seashore and, most importantly, the low volume of vaccines. According to data from the Department of Statistics, just in the port city and Klaipda district has slightly less than half of the total adult population been vaccinated.

The deputy minister also claimed that the loading of hospital beds could threaten the Vilnius region, where 45 patients are currently being treated.

“Bed occupancy is increasing in the Vilnius region, Šiauliai – stable, Panevėžys – even slightly decreased, and in Kaunas – it increased slightly, but very slightly. When a region starts a wave, it continues, of course, let’s hope this does not happen ”, explained A. Bilotienė-Motiejūnienė.

According to her, hospitals are currently treating middle-aged people between 30 and 50 years old. With the exception of children, this is the least vaccinated group of people.

Recently, with the spread of the delta strain of coronavirus, the number of new infections and patients in Lithuanian hospitals is increasing. 380 new cases of coronavirus were detected in the last day.
