“The university brand has not been renewed for a long time, so it is natural that renewal is inevitable due to changes in the environment around us,” Rector Alfonsas Daniūnas is quoted in the university report.

According to him, the goal is to make the name of the university more understandable and acceptable to the international public.

According to A. Daniūnas, almost a third of all study programs at the university are conducted in English, and students from abroad last year accounted for 13.5 percent. students.

“The combination of a country or capital and technology on behalf of a university is well recognized around the world and clearly shows the orientation of the university, and (new name: BNS) is easy to apply and understand in Lithuanian and English”, said the rector.

According to him, the rebrand should give a boost to the university community, new energy.

This high school has changed its name several times. The beginning of the present Vilnius Gediminas Technical University is considered to have been in 1956, when the Western Branch of the Western Faculty of the Vilnius Kaunas Polytechnic Institute (KPI) was established. In 1969, this branch was transformed into an independent technical school – the Vilnius Civil Engineering Institute (VISI). In 1990, by resolution of the Presidium of the Supreme Council, the Institute became the Vilnius Technical University (VTU), and in 1996, the Government awarded it the title of Duke Gediminas.
