Health Minister Aurelijus Veryga and the head of the Vilnius Department of the National Center for Public Health (NVSC), Rolanda Lingienė, spoke about the news on prevention and management of coronavirus at a press conference on Friday.
Half full of coronavirus beds
According to the minister, 35% of hospital beds are currently occupied for the treatment of the coronavirus.
“In practice, we are halfway through certain measures to restrict the functioning of medical institutions,” said the minister.
According to A. Veryga, Lithuania has estimated that the maximum number of full beds for coronavirus treatment in hospitals can be 70%.
“It just came to our notice then. We have 139 cases of hospitalized patients. Most of them, more precisely half of them, are from the Šiauliai region. What we can observe is the increasing number of patients who need oxygen therapy. But the The number of people in resuscitation, and especially those who need pulmonary ventilation, is not growing dramatically. The number of oxygen therapy can be explained by the fact that doctors themselves are more active in using oxygen therapy, sometimes as a kind of measure preventive to avoid greater consequences ”, said the head of SAM.
He addressed the people of Raseiniai
According to A. Veryga, the situation “continues to deteriorate.”
“I would like to address the residents of the city and Raseiniai district separately, where the disease is spreading very intensely at the moment. I want to invite, encourage you to listen to the NVSC, the calls of the municipality and actively test, all conditions are in place.
All the instructions for the second moving point are also given. We hear alarming messages that there are people who “do not believe in the virus” and do not follow science but conspiracy theories. It is not a question of religion, it is not a question of faith, it is a question of science and I would call not to endanger the health of yourself and your loved ones,
According to R. Lingienė, currently the incidence of 100 thousand inhabitants in the Raseiniai district during the last 14 days is 999.2. This is more than 22 times the Lithuanian average. Most of the attention of epidemiologists is now focused on the Blinsturbiškės welfare home.
A. Veryga also recalled about the use of masks: “I urge you to be careful, to wear masks in those situations, in places where you have to visit some place where you have to wear them. And even in cases where its wear is not regulated. If you interact with people who are not members of your family or everyday coworkers, it would be great if you put on a mask, don’t forget to wash and disinfect your hands. “
Aims to increase the rate
The Minister also announced that discussions are continuing in Europe on how countries should restrict movement, which countries should be included in the lists of affected countries. Although there is no consensus yet, it is argued that there should be no exceptions for neighboring countries, such as the way Lithuania applies to Latvia and Estonia.
“There are discussions about higher rates for the countries that would be in the green zone. It is proposed to increase that indicator to 50 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, and the positive percentage of 100 studies should not exceed 3%. There are also some exceptions to work and study. They almost coincide with what we are now applying to our neighbors, “Veryga said.
According to A. Veryga, proposals will be presented next week to the COVID-19 Steering Committee to consider that “a specific indicator would still be abandoned, but it would be linked to the indicator that Lithuania has and that said indicator would only be valid for countries with one more indicator higher than Lithuanian. Of course, with the exception of third countries, whose strategy and test performance may not be reliable. “
Those who go to Latvia will have to isolate themselves, except for some groups.
The Minister also recalled that some groups of people traveling to Latvia must have passed the COVID-19 test. This rule applies to those who travel for health reasons, to athletes. Also, when they go to Latvia, Lithuanians will have to isolate themselves, except for some groups.
“Foreigners arriving from affected countries are no longer required to perform the COVID-19 test. This is because after changing the isolation procedure and noticing that the tests carried out in not all countries are reliable, the measure was abandoned. ”Said A. Veryga.
The incidence was 6 times higher in September than in July
R.Lingienė also presented the situation of the incidence of the coronavirus in Lithuania at a press conference in September.
