Quarantine measures are not enough

According to the acting minister, since the number of new cases is only increasing every week, the existing quarantine measures are not enough.

“It just came to our notice then. Next week, on Monday, the COVID-19 Steering Committee will review the quarantine conditions and arrangements,” Veryga said.

The acting minister noted that the incidence of the coronavirus in Lithuania is now particularly high. Portal Delphi I already wrote that on Thursday Lithuania rose to third place in Europe in terms of morbidity.

“It has been mentioned more than once in various formats that Lithuania is among the leaders in terms of morbidity in Europe. We really don’t want us to get to first place, to start acting more responsibly and stop the spread of the disease, “said A. Veryga.

The interim minister also noted: “The number of patients in hospitals is also growing slightly. Naturally, because the more infected, the more patients end up in hospitals. This places a particularly heavy burden on the doctors who work there. “

When asked by the interim minister how the quarantine is planned to be toughened, Veryga said he didn’t know exactly yet, but on Monday there would be more stringent workplace regulations, wearing masks not only where customers are served, but also when communicating with colleagues. The Ministry of Education, Science and Sport will also be asked to review whether it is not possible to organize more distance education.

Warned about leisure

The acting minister also spoke about the fact that he receives many questions about various places to spend his free time, such as skiing.

“We are constantly asking and looking for various loopholes and explanations, maybe this can be arranged and done. Once again, I want to ask everyone to understand where we are. And we should not look for any loopholes or legal wording in the quarantine provisions.

I can certainly guarantee that the Government will not allow conditions to be relaxed. On Monday it will be discussed what quarantine conditions could be tightened. So far, we are at a stage where the number of infections continues to grow. As a result, we cannot think of opening any entertainment.

In other countries, you cannot move a certain distance from your home. <...> Now is definitely not the time for the ski slopes, “said A. Veryga.

One of the hottest spots is Panevėžys

At present, Vilnius City Clinical Hospital, better known as Antakalnis Hospital, does not receive emergency services and does not even provide emergency assistance to clear places for COVID-19 infection.

According to A. Veryga, the situation in other regions is similar to that of the Vilnius Antakalnis Hospital.

“It may not be necessary to stop services to the same extent, but institutions need to reorient their work. Now one of the hottest spots is Panevėžys county, where the number of patients is growing very rapidly.

Before that it was Šiauliai, Klaipėda, Kaunas. Now we are talking about Vilnius and Panevėžys. Every morning we discuss the situation, we look at the burden of medical institutions. We can say that the situation remains stably tense, “said the acting head of the Ministry of Health (SAM).

According to D. Razmuvienė, now one of the cities “on fire” is Kėdainiai. More than 130 people in the city hospital have coronavirus. The Šilalė district is also mentioned, where the fireplace spread from the family celebration to various institutions.

The number of deaths has increased in Lithuania

The minister was asked why a higher number of deaths (not only from coronavirus) has been observed in Lithuania in recent weeks.

“I have already commented a bit and we have presented as much detailed information as possible. We also have the same assumption to test, unfortunately, but there is no possibility. Unless a coronavirus test is performed on each co-deceased. So we could say 100 percent.

It is possible that some of those deaths that are now diagnosed as deaths from cardiovascular disease or respiratory diseases could be followed by some deaths from coronavirus.

But that hypothesis is not so easy to test. And anyway, we are seeing an increase in the number of people dying from coronavirus. This also contributes to the increasing number of deaths, “said A. Veryga.

The acting minister asked the population to make more active use of the Korona stop mobile application. The application notifies its owner when it has had a risk contact with a patient. It can also indicate whether a person is infected with a coronavirus.

The minister is also receiving threats

NVSC staff say they receive multiple messages daily from people who do not believe in the virus and deny it in one way or another, and the messages are also threatening in nature. The journalists also asked the minister if he also receives these types of messages.

“It just came to our attention then. And when I see that the threats may be at least partially serious, I record those messages in the electronic police, I report them and I know that there are also fines for those people.

I receive private messages on social networks with various threats. […] Sometimes those messages are relayed to the police, sometimes to the management security department if I think there may be a threat.

I want to urge everyone once again and remind them that they have no right to insult or threaten, I take these messages seriously, ”said A. Veryga.
