Veryga has adopted shock tactics for those who do not want to wear masks: let’s agree on how many people we are willing to bury for convenience.

“We will no longer avoid inconvenience, no matter how much we explain, because people are tired during quarantine and mental health indicators show that we are angry. But I always wonder if that inconvenience is too high a price. (…) Let’s agree on how many lives we agree to sacrifice and then not burden them, ”said A. Veryga during a public debate moderated by journalist Daiva Žeimytė-Bilienė with the minister and head of the Lithuanian Medical Movement Živile Gudlevičienė.

The minister said that when it comes to wearing masks, it is not worth detailing that specific places are being talked about in isolation. According to him, it is important to understand the general logic.

“If we meet people with whom we do not communicate every day, and if the communication lasts more than 15 minutes, and if we cannot maintain a distance of two meters, is it difficult to put on a mask? (…) In the street, wherever we go, it makes no sense to use them. Where we sit for a long time, it makes sense to put them on. We should think like this and give more instructions, ”said A. Veryga.

The minister does not agree that Lithuania is a state with the strictest conditions.

“We had a very strict quarantine, there was a sudden stoppage of everything. Now the conditions with us are relatively moderate. Countries that have experienced a very difficult spread, such as northern Italy, have even bought individual banks, there is no discussion about the use of masks there, ”said A. Veryga.

Medical Moods Vary

Another block of questions referred to the renewal of services to patients. The LMS chief said medical sentiment is mixed at the moment. He noted that the spring wave has already trained doctors and institutions to work safely. Ž. Gudlevičienė agreed that he managed to prevent the spread of the virus during the first purchase.

“The dedication of those who worked on the fireplaces was great, there was a lot of appreciation. (…) However, the virus still lives by our side, and the public began to question whether the measures were effective, appropriate, or whether the doctors really worked. People say that it is impossible to enter the institutions, the disease has been delayed, the number of deaths has increased and now all this successfully managed situation is turning against the doctors. Doctors have to endure massive sieges, listen to negative comments, they are accused of inaccessibility to health services. The disappointment comes, because it turns out that the doctors are to blame for everything, ”said Ž. Gudlevičienė.

The minister assured that plans have already been drawn up for the cold season, the reserve of which should be left for those infected by COVID-19.

“Today we don’t use a third of the equipment,” Veryga said.
