Recent developments
Protective masks will be mandatory in all public spaces where municipalities have announced the local quarantine. The minister named when they could not be used.
“There is an additional requirement for the use of masks in public places for people over 6 years old. This requirement would not apply to sports, as well as to highly qualified athletes, in catering establishments where they are already seated at a table, as well as to people with disabilities. Furthermore, this requirement would not apply outside the residential area, as happened in the spring, ”said the Minister.
He said the new changes will also be discussed at a government meeting on Wednesday.
And on Wednesday, the Government will consider proposals on the prohibition of events and meetings organized in open and closed spaces. And there would also be some exceptions: for high-performance competitions without spectators, for cultural events. It is clear that the tickets are distributed electronically or spectators are registered and that a distance of at least two meters is maintained between them. But the government should decide on this, “he said.
The minister said that from Friday the sports competition will be without spectators, but performances in theaters or classical music concerts with spectators will still be possible.
“It would be possible to visit some institutions, because there really is a difference between visitors from sports, stadiums for basketball fans and people who only come to see a function, a concert of classical music,” said Minister A. Veryga.
He said that the current situation is really very different from that of the spring.
“In the spring, we recall, several stores were closed, services were suspended and planned health services were severely restricted. There are no such restrictions at this time, because society, despite the dire situation, has to maintain certain services in terms of health services, ”said the minister in the Issues Interview on Monday.
He said that while health care services won’t be reduced, it could happen on its own. If the infection spreads among staff at any of the treatment facilities, services are restricted or not provided at all. Additionally, by increasing the number of beds for coronavirus patients, scheduled services will not be provided there at that time.
Student holidays from Monday this year will also be different. Next week, students in grades 5-12 will continue their studies remotely and elementary school children will travel to schools. No changes are planned yet.
“It just came to our attention then. (…) We will continue to talk with the Ministry of Education, Science and Sports about what to do with primary and secondary students if the situation continues to deteriorate. I would really like to give them at least a minimum of opportunities to provide them contact training, ”said A. Veryga.
He also recalled 2 weeks of contact work in some schools and 2 weeks of distance learning in some schools.
According to the minister, one can also talk about changing the use of masks for students of basic and secondary education institutions.
“But it is for the future, we will talk about it this week,” Veryga said.
Why only now?
When asked why these austerity measures are being introduced now that the number of new cases has exceeded 700 and if decisions are not yet overdue, Minister A. Veryga assured that the restrictions had been introduced before. And they are tightened because they have not been fulfilled.
“It just came to our knowledge then. (…) We see that these requirements have been established but have not been met in some circumstances. And today we had a discussion that because they are not met, new decisions must be made,” he said.
On Monday, the NVSC reported that of 766 new cases, 468 were unsolved.
“If the number of cases continues to grow at this rate, it cannot be ruled out that there are some cases in the future that the NVSC simply will not be able to investigate,” said the interlocutor.
Recommendations for late weekends
The long weekend is coming. Minister A. Veryga on News Radio urged to follow the recommendations and be careful.
“Some of these things are important: the requirement to wear masks will go into effect then, when the quarantines are announced. People need to know which municipality they go to, if there are restrictions on meetings, if they wear masks. And even if you go to a municipality where the quarantine has not yet been announced, it will definitely not be too much if people wear masks and guards there, ”said A. Veryga.
He also asked not to arrange joint meetings with relatives.
“And another tip is to visit the cemetery itself, if people do not gather there without knowing someone, it does not represent any risk. But the request of the people is not to drive or visit relatives. Also, do not organize meetings, sitting in a common table ”, urged the minister.
“Let’s be aware, let’s try not to make this weekend an even bigger problem than we have now,” Minister A. Veryga said on news radio.
