Aurelijus Veryga, Minister of Health, Chief of State-Level Emergency Operations, and Daiva Razmuvienė, Chief Specialist of the Infectious Disease Management Division of the National Center for Public Health (NVSC), spoke at a news conference Monday about the situation with the management of COVID-19 in the country and what measures are planned. .

You will have to reorganize work

The Minister pointed out that the morbidity situation in the country is not improving.

“In general, the situation in the country is not improving and, unfortunately, the number of our infections, the number of cases and the percentage of people whose route of infection can no longer be determined is growing, which means that the infection is is spreading in the country.

Unfortunately, the occupancy of hospital beds for COVID patients also started to grow a little more intensively. We had a little over 40 percent last week, now we have 57 percent. These are the specific beds for patients with COVID-19. Today the possibility of expanding that number of beds will be discussed, which means that some institutions will have to reorganize their work, ”said A. Veryga.

According to the minister, the medical institution will now have to deliver part of the beds that were intended for regular patients to people with coronavirus infection.

3 new kills

D. Razmuvienė reported 3 new deaths. All the dead are elderly with chronic diseases. Their deaths will be included in Tuesday’s statistics.

“It was reported only this morning, the 3 from Kaunas County,” said D. Razmuvienė.

The first deceased belonged to the 60-70 age group, a resident of the Blinsturbiškės welfare home.

The second person belonged to the age group of 70 to 80 years, had chronic diseases and was treated in the cardiology department of Kaunas Hospital.

The third person was also older: from 70 to 80 years old, he had a chronic disease, he was infected from a person with a close environment.

The virus is spreading to educational institutions and workplaces.

According to D. Razmuvienė, family outbreaks are occurring again, the virus is spreading from families to educational institutions and workplaces.

“The figures from educational institutions are also worrying. Of the 205 cases registered yesterday, it was “registered in educational institutions,” said the epidemiologist.

As pointed out by D. Razmuvienė, currently 45 educational institutions have been registered, in which the spread of the coronavirus has been registered internally: people become infected with another person during the educational process.

New fireplaces reported

D. Razmuvienė also drew attention to the surgical department of the Kaunas Clinical Hospital: 17 cases of COVID-19 have already been registered.

“There are a total of 29 in the Palanga Rehabilitation Hospital and these are the cases that have spread to other regions,” said D. Razmuvienė.

New outbreaks were registered at the Klaipėda Seafarers Hospital in Švėkšna, at the Klaipėda Republican Hospital at the Skuodas branch in a total of 4 related cases.

“Of the 205, almost 150 became ill because they had been in contact with a person with a confirmed coronavirus infection. There is a problem here, because sick or isolated people simply do not follow certain rules and, as we can see, the infection has spread ”, warned D. Razmuvienė.

The mayor of Raseiniai would like to continue the quarantine

The minister also hinted that the quarantine should be extended in Raseiniai until the situation is fully resolved.

“We have preliminary knowledge from the mayor of Raseiniai that it is still planned to jointly request a slightly longer quarantine, that is, request an extension of the quarantine until the situation returns to normal,” said the head of SAM.

Up to 70 new cases of COVID-19 infection have been registered in Vilnius during the last day. When asked if he agrees with the opinion of the mayor of Vilnius, Remigijus Šimašius, that despite the increasing morbidity, nothing needs to be closed and the virus must be fought by other means, A. Veryga said: therefore , there are not enough tools. Or the same measures are not followed. Because the introduction of a measure in itself does not mean anything if people tend to violate the recommendations. It really all depends on the public conscience.

And it is clear that more measures are sought in this situation. Recommendations were sent to the municipalities today to take action, and if they don’t, the possibility of introducing additional restrictions at the national level will surely be considered. “

The country will be divided into 4 groups

According to the minister, the European Commission has proposed dividing the country into 4 groups: green, yellow, red and gray areas.

Green would be found in countries with a morbidity rate of less than 25 and a percentage of positive tests of less than 4 percent.

Yellow zone: morbidity less than 50 and positive tests less than 4 percent.

Red zone: morbidity greater than 50 and greater than 4 percent. positive tests or morbidity would exceed 150 cases per 100,000 inhabitants regardless of the percentage of positive tests. Countries that do not provide clear test criteria would fall into the gray zone.

The same distribution will apply to the municipalities. This means that the measures for a specific municipality will be established under these zones.

Municipalities in the “red” zone will be recommended to declare quarantine.
