The decision was made on Monday by the municipality’s Emergency Operations Center.
“In order not to spread the infection somewhere, we will try to rent container houses in one of the firewalls. We have not yet made a decision in which. (…) We will cover the area,” Alvydas Verbickas, head of the center and director of the municipal administration.
According to him, by making such a decision, the municipality intends to solve the problem of safe storage and treatment of migrants with coronavirus, since the central government has not decided for a month where to transport to treat migrants with coronavirus who cross the border illegally. border.
A. Verbickas says that so far six migrants with COVID-19 have entered the Varėna district. They are now one of the firewalls in the holding cell.
“There are a maximum of nine rooms. The conditions are not what they are: they have a fever and need basic treatment,” said the head of the Varėna municipality administration.
“Already last Thursday, I stated the conditions to centrally treat the cystic issue instead of the asymptomatic treatment. Otherwise, we will take you to the ministry. The municipality must take care of the asymptomatic itself. We do that. We, the residents of Varėna, do not invest in Varėna. We have entered into agreements with the Alytus Kudirka Hospital and two hospitals in Vilnius. Chaos with refugees. We don’t know if the municipality has to take care of them or not, ”he said.

Verbickas says, among other things, that the municipality has requested the Ministry of Health for funds to maintain a third ambulance team, but has not received a response so far.
According to him, this crew is needed due to the increase in the number of calls to border barriers due to the migration crisis.
In response to this situation, ambulance teams from other municipalities (Druskininkai, Alytus, Šalčininkai) were forced to go to the residents of Varėna.
According to the representative of the Varėna municipality, the GMP crews take the time to get to the migrants’ accommodation.
“It just came to our knowledge then. One patient arrives, more appear and the doctors take between 3 and 4 hours. A car stops there. And we have to pay a lot of money to those municipalities whose ambulances go to the residents of our district” said the director of administration, BNS.
According to him, there are around 100 calls to migrants a week.
According to him, the issue of how to obtain prescription drugs for migrants is also not resolved, since they need an identity document to collect them.
“They have a prescription, but to implement it, that is, to take medicine, you need an identity card. (…) We translate creatively, with our medicines and in other ways ”, stated A. Verbickas.
Since the beginning of the year, according to the latest data, more than 1,000 foreigners entering Belarus illegally have been trapped in the Varėna municipality.
According to A. Verbickas, 350 migrants crossed the Varėna district on Sunday alone.
According to him, there are now 398 border violators in three fortifications: Vydeniai, Kabeliai and Barauskas.
