That would roughly be the outline of our bread and game society. Virtual games visible on screens. The reality remains stable. The politicians chosen by the public become lynch-worthy victims, but also the pranksters whose show we miss as soon as tonight’s news ends. Get involved tomorrow!
It would be difficult to track when it started, but maybe one was “Golden Onions” at first. It is not this particular party that has established a new fad; in general, the ground prepares itself before the phenomena. We experienced some aspects of the medieval day of the fools in the first year of the overthrow: the bottoms mixed with the peaks, the fools became kings, the sages defended themselves against the Gariūnai and leaped to reap. Finally, a new order emerged, with new rulers taking their positions.
When Arūnas Valinskas organized the first “Golden Onions” on April 1, 1998, there was an echo of the carnival revelry, because the hierarchy was not abolished, but strengthened even more, laughter stopped rounding and liberating everyone, but rather frame it. It was a triumph of satire and sarcasm, in which the revolutionary spirit of the proletariat flourished, but the people were given to virtually admire and vent from afar. It seemed like the right way to poke fun at the nonsense of the year, and that should embarrass politicians.
But going on stage on any occasion still means getting on stage, in the center of everyone’s attention. And politicians here have seen the undoubted promotional benefits that accumulate a sense of shame. A new antenna was born: politics and entertainment. It is logical that the political elite has not accumulated so much self-esteem, because the roots of this elite are different. It was further weakened by the march of the King of Ubagai the next year against the aristocratic ambitions of the Vienna Ball guests to raise money for charities; later, the king marched to the Seimas. The ridiculous “bikers” of April 1, 1999. He entered the Presidency in a limousine, both sides made a liberal proclamation, and it is only natural that a decade later, not on a stupid day at all, the stars of television and the Valinskas himself would have already taken the oath of office as president-elect.
“We are not private,” said Louis XIV, who wanted to avoid a public dance for Dofin. “We must be fully engaged with the public.” The words “au public” could be translated as “people” or “to the public”, but the king, who danced the ballet, looked at him in the same way as the public. He understood the power of publicity and liked to use it, affirming not only France but also the society of the spectacle. And this show is always necessary, be it a guillotine or a television.
And this show is always necessary, be it a guillotine or a television.
When there is a clear separation between the stage and the hall, the spectators and the actors, it is no longer so important how many new pranksters there will be in the Seimas; it is important how many of them will be displayed on the screens. They make jokes according to their taste and education, and what is the reward for that? Not just “Bicycle News” (if the mice don’t mention you, you’re not at all), today normal knowledge eagerly awaits them. Report, analyze, inform, that is, do what the news services should do. However, we are watching an ongoing promo clip about the king’s exploits and marches today. Where did he go, who did he meet, what he said, how the political scientist of the mansion interpreted his thinking, and how he was corrected the next day by the majesty of the palace. Everything revolves around them, kings-suns, no other character, like the public. The audience applauds behind the screens and is more widely reflected in the program “Quiz”. Because people a priori it’s stupid and dark.
It is possible to contradict: this show wanted nothing more than to poke fun at the funniest and most stupid answers. Television presidents may also love that the audience cares about them, because in their name the dark works of the rulers are publicized in the news and the viewers shout “naked king!” Yes, the audience cares about them, because of the ratings, which means money in the first place. However, the big picture and the proportions of the programs show, quite unexpectedly, that there is no other society in this country other than the Questionnaire. Or a small correction – it is remembered, but only in two cases – either as rising to the “elite” (as understood by lifestyle specialists) or as being at the “lowest” level of society: disasters and crime. The media create society only from these two segments. And the creators of the information, or more precisely the distributors, become masters of the show, warming up the public as entertainers.
In general, the police provide journalists with disaster material and the authorities on the “upper house”. Without them, there would be a total collapse of the media. Basically, it was faithful: what to show in summer, when nothing happens and old faces that recede from the esophagus get tired?
After all, even political scientists or economists have difficulty finding an explanation of what the middle class is in their minds, because it does not appear in public or media space (although it was she who saved the country from this year’s crisis with its consumption). Among television shows, we will not detect not only this class, but the general public as an object. There are only products for her that are difficult to distinguish from advertising: travel, nature and culinary shows. As the people of Molėtai, Kaunas or Tauragė really live, we will not see every day, nor any protests, images from Latvia or Poland. Wondering what students are taught in journalism institutes? Do you know that an “investigation” does not necessarily mean simply looking at the documents of the Procurement Office?
Therefore, the main leitmotif before the elections was the fear of the crown and the daily calls from the chief doctor “Don’t relax!” With what greed the organizers of knowledge seized the new members of the Seimas! Not as representatives of the authorities, not as those chosen to correct the situation of the crowns and crowns, as pranksters who will finally find something new. Visually, it always looks eloquent: fresh faces are seen in corridors, at night in cars, running from one office to another, leaving the palace or getting lost in it. Secrets of the Versailles corridor …
The era of absolutism is repeated: the absolutization of the rulers.
The era of absolutism is repeated: the absolutization of the rulers. Knowledge, followed by forums, discussions, conversations, shows of the same political and life style, all about them. The rulers know that everything, even real things, becomes a spectacle (this is the answer to the question why the figures of hate were chosen for the Seimas, at best without doing anything). Those who are outraged by this could be told to turn off the television and stop watching those performances. Bad advice in an age when information is almost everything.
It is not about furniture hanging on the wall with moving images. The problem is that absolutism goes from virtual to real space. And this means that society is forced to disability, because everything is delegated to the authorities allegedly responsible for it. They seem to decide everything because there are no other decision makers, not in lower circles or among individuals. This disempowers citizens who have just become voters. In reality, this manifests itself in things that are incomprehensible to common sense: the representative of the public sector is overwhelmed by the fear of dealing with himself because the minister has no written instructions. You have to wait for the test response, and only then operate, because there is a disease and there is a Disease No.1. The politician’s signature is missing on the rescue permit.
People’s anger builds up and becomes irrational enough: masks are needed to avoid fines, not to get infected. There is no danger, they are lying to us. Social media in its own bubbles just bubble and curse power, but that’s about it. Because we are not. Society is left voiceless and disabled.
Now we are seeing a spectacle of receptions for the ruler, which is not provided for in the Constitution. But meetings, visits to lower advisers, evaluations, then visits to senior advisers: beautiful, interesting, brilliant … Will the ruler and advisers later take responsibility for the wrong decision? It doesn’t matter how much more effective etiquette and kurtuasis ceremonies are. Someone says there is no time. But the creators of the performances don’t look like that. And they are right: remembering absolutism, we have time for will: the people will rebel after about 100 years.
