The Chancellor of the Ministry of Health, Jurgita Grebenkovienė, says that the vaccines have already reached the Santara clinics, and that the vaccines will reach other cities: Klaipėda, Šiauliai, Panevėžys and Kaunas.

The second shipment is expected to arrive in Lithuania in 29 days, we are expected to receive a slightly larger shipment than we received this time, but the exact number will be known only before the arrival of the vaccine. The Chancellor claims that the third shipment could arrive in Lithuania in early January.

According to J. Grebenkovienė, it is planned to vaccinate doctors in the first trimester.

“Residents and staff of nursing homes will then be vaccinated, followed by chronic diseases and people over 65, and finally by mass vaccination of the public,” the chancellor said.

The news portal tv3.lt recalls that the first doses of the BioNTech and Pfizer vaccines have been taken to the warehouses of the Health Emergencies Center (ESSC); their location, delivery time and exact number of vaccines are not advertised for safety reasons.

Subsequently, the vaccine will be distributed to five central medical institutions in Vilnius, Kaunas, Klaipėda, Šiauliai and Panevėžys, which are responsible for the management of COVID-19 in the regions.

This first batch of coronavirus vaccine is intended for physicians. By consensus, all clinics will begin vaccination simultaneously, Sunday, at 8 pm in the morning.

The BioNTech and Pfizer vaccine is the first and so far the only one authorized in the European Union (EU), and the European Commission authorized its distribution on Monday, when it was recommended by the European Medicines Agency.

The vaccine is expected to reach all EU countries that have purchased it on Saturday, and vaccination is scheduled to start simultaneously on Sunday.

After the vaccination of doctors working in healthcare institutions in Lithuania, in the second stage, vaccines will be administered to employees and patients of medical institutions providing supportive care and nursing services.

Earlier it was announced that the first shipment should reach Lithuania in almost 10 thousand. vaccines, but the Lithuanian authorities stated that information on future volumes was constantly changing. A. Dulkys hopes that if the vaccine supply is not interrupted, it will be possible to vaccinate several thousand doctors and people at risk each week.
